Default Running problems after rebuild

Hi,
Need some advice / pointers.

2wd Saph. I just had my bottom end rebuilt, 200 block, 7.8.1 piston, new rings standard crank etc., running standard injectors, standard map sensor, L8 ECU, standard chip and board, New T34 set to 8psi, New plugs, Cap, rotor, ford motorsport leads, phase. Replaced all the engine sensors apart from CPS (was new a few months back), Map Sensor and TPS TP09. The car was running fine 2 weeks ago. I thought I freshen up the bottom end and then after running in take down to Stu for some live mapping on light blues.

Plumbed in a new 044 Pump & new fuel filter on and put the engine & gearbox back in today.
Now this is the first time I’ve started the engine after the build and its running rough low down, idle is bad and if held at 2k is sound like its misfiring, I removed the plugs, they are covered in black soot and not wet. (So not fuelling - I think).

i have an uprated Fuel Pump loom (from Car Looms UK - Ryan) i could install tomorrow, but dont think this will fix the problem.
I have tried another ECU, check the gap on the CPS (tried 0.6 and 1.0) and check phase 0.2-0.3, looks ok to me.

Any idea's.? I’ve tried a P8 and another L8 still same.

Thanks,
Manoj

You definately lined the cambelt up right, on the tooth not on the indicator mark?

blue water temp (ecu) is the wiring ok to that, my m8 had the same recently after a rebuild and it turned out to be the wiring plug on that sensor..

Yes, Piston 1 and 4 are sitting up top and 2 and 3 are down, crank pulley tooth is on TDC mark, Dizzy is on correct mark/notch, cam pulleys are lined up.
i will check it all again tomorrow.

thanks.

Or the opposite if they have been put back in the wrong holes, could be holding the valves open on a couple of cylnders where they are pumped up too far, ive seen that before.

It’s very strange. doesn’t seem to hold an idle, just revs up and down a little and run rough. Not so bad when at 3k but under that its not right.
With the ISCV disconnected is starts up but I have keep some revs otherwise it just cuts out. I guess I need to adjust the idle with the Valve disconnected first to get a base idle.

Should I loosen the TPS and adjust this, I replaced this with PF09 (red 4x4) for the L8.
I left it loose and let the throttle find its natural position, not sure if this is correct.

could it be the fuel pressure reg or CO.?

thanks,
Manoj

Did you have the valve springs out during the rebuild?

hm,
i did remove the the cams and the tappets, and may have put them back in the wrong holes as they all look the same to me..
what is the best way to resolve this..? if this is the problem.

thanks,
Manoj

Do you have a 2WD loom? If you change to a L8 you have to change the outer wires of the TPS.

Ok, try to sort out the CO at idle. If youre plugs are black it's running to rich. Probably the 044 pump is flowing a lot more fuel causing rich mixture.

HI,
OK, since fiddling with the 4x4 PF09 TPS it now runs much better, this was causing problems with the idle and poor running / CO.

I have slackened of the screw's that hold the TPS, and move it slightly. It now it revs at 2k after being fully warmed up, but the idle doesnt drop any lower than 2k even if i adjust the idle screw.

i think i need to set up the TPS correctly.
anyone know how i should adjust the 4x4 TPS PF09 so that it is spot on..
what voltage/ohms should i be looking for with ignition on and idle..??
idle screw - clockwise = more rev, anti-clockwise = less.??
If i discount the Idle speed control valve from warm, the revs just drop and cuts out unless i hold the revs with the throttle.

if i move the TPS slightly out it starts but doesnt hold any idle, sits below 500rpm and cut out.

thanks for everyone who has replied and for the tuners who have offered advise, Mark (MAD), Stu (MSD), Karl (NMS).. etc.
Manoj
