Anyone used them on a Saff?
If so, what kits did you use and how where they to fit, do they look good?
i really fancy some for mine, as my lights are pretty shocking and i think they can look good, any opinions?
Cheers

I think there was a post on pf a few months ago about them. Im sure people were saying that when it came to mot time they had to take the bulbs out for them to pass. Im pretty sure people said they were easy to do,im sure people were cutting holes in the back of the headlight covers to fit the kits.
My tester has tested various cars with aftermarket hid lights, around 50% pass rate, so long as a correct beam of suitable colour is produced they can't fail it.
Headlight levellers and light washers are not part of the mot, my car has to go to mot soon without it's rear roll bar, but again it's a pass, as not tested, I'm having made some EN16T roll bars that clear the poly diff mounts.
Poly diff mount = AWSOME SPECTACULAR BEST THING EVER.

You could use the new "mad eyes" from the US that uses the Chevy Silverado lights.
Many different HID options since there are aftermarket lights for the Silverado.

but saying that when i had them in mine they made a big differance ane were well worth the upgrade
just a shame the kit i got the bulbs fucked up within a few dys and the ebay seller fucked off when i put a claim in

I have 3 cars with them on, and they all pass the MOT, including one yesterday. All have brilliant beam patterns as well.
Mind you, mine are all the 3-figure bi-xenon ones, not the Ł60 off ebay jobs.
STUCOS, the point I was making is although in LAW the car has to have levellers etc, the mot is not testing it to see if it is legal, only to see if it passes a mot which is nothing to do with the law, you can pass a mot, then go an get nicked for something on the car which is illegal, washers and levllers are not even MENTIONED in the manual.
Matt Baxter,
I DID read the manual on friday, the rear arb does not even get a mention, so is not even a testable item, therefore it cannot be failed as it doesn't have to pass anything, the ONLY proviso vosa came out with, al though ecently and VERY confused seems to be where a roll bar is fitted, it must work, and be attached securely, not having one cannot be a fail, according to vosa, but as you may know what they are like it could be different next month.

the reason i remember was when I went for a refresher one on the other blokes asked about removing the antiroll bar as he was well into his off roading
but how can the tester know as things like the clio some have one some dont so cant really be enforced
Matt I think I'd just pass and advise....end of the day they spend most of the refresher courses telling us 'if unsure, pass and advise, and always cover your arse'
Think i'm due refresher course number two early next year....it's a day off work at least

Suspension parts,ie arb if removed must have all sigh=ns of mounting points removed also, also fitting hid lights to a vehicle,if not a retro fit by a dealer means vehicle is no longer type aproved,
tabs i know what your saying, mot law and construction and use law are 2 diffrent things,ie whats mot able might still be illigal on the road ie no number plates
cheeRS stu

The next thing i knew he was out there kicking the fuck out of the screen

i was pissinng me self but had to give him the vt20

very handy (its an online mot manual) http://www.motuk.co.uk/
missing antiroll bar is 2.4 g
and nothing about hid at all so as long as they give the right pattern cant see a reason to fail the MOT
I'll be honest I very rarely bother to look...if its got a decent and correct pattern of the right colour and height, and is secure then through it goes
Just looked on that online manual...agree very handy, they should update it though....its nearly four years old!

Although there is an interesting bit in there under the brakes that states that a vehicle with either more than 1 axle engaged permanently or with an LSD should not be tested on rollers. I knew about the 4-wheel drive (mine does not get tested @ all in that respect) but was not aware of the LSD example.
tbh I thought every tester knew about that....it's the only excuse we've got for taking anything interesting (many funky motors have LSD's fitted) out for a test drive with the old deaccelerometer
My new place is all tarty, its a automated test lane and the deaccelerometer (is that spelt right, im unsure?) is all digital.....miss my old tapperly

Nope, If its not there it cant be tested, therefore its an advisory. In the MOT testers mag the other week, there was an Astra with a front tie bar missing
The tester phoned VOSA and asked where the failure would come under and they said pass it and issue an advisory
I will try and copy the article and post it up. But that is VOSA's own magazine!

Yep I'll back up Matt on this as I looked into it this week at work (I was REALLY bored lol).....very direct in its wording as well, and thats me checking via the F5 button.

mine were awsome with teh morrettes
and the question on rollbars, i never had a roll bar on my sierra had compression struts, does that mean it shouldnt of passed
^^ Well they dont really do they, yes they keep the road wheel's position in the arch correct like the standard sierra front roll bar does but comp struts dont control body roll like a arb would. If you can fail any car for having no roll bar then you should be able in theory to fail a car with comp struts fitted in their place.
i got my hid kit from this fella charlie put me onto on another forum
i didn't notice a huge difference to be honest when i fitted them, but for the money they were brighter yes
but the other day when i was out in one of the works vans i really did notice the difference "normal" headlights made compared to the hid's
the ones i got were 2 pin versions though, so the sierra's have 3 pins sow ould need to have the flashier versions for the dip/dim thing yes?
