Anyone completely against medical experimentation on animals should read this website.

Punkie - there are certain degrees of animal testing and different ways it is carried out.
the one above was purely for curiositys sake and nothing more!

The pet called Wing Wen was said to be doing well in Fuzhou, China helping human face graft research.
Zhen said his surgery was the first surgery of its kind on a dog.
"Since a dogs face is close to a humans, its a good reference for future human face transplants."

Im of the opinion its valuable research.
I feel very sorry for the dogs but at the end of the day, if it helps improve our ability to save the quality of life of a badly scarred 5 year old who has been in a fire, then its a worthwhile sacrifice.
Especially if it means an innocent toddler getting their sight back by transplanting a damaged eye as well like in this experiment.

Absolute bollocks was this for medical research!
Fujian Provincial Hospital in Fuzhou, is now hoping to attract rich westerners for face change surgery.

everyone is entitled to them
but...IMHO, medical research on animals is the way that cures are found for human ailments and surgical procedures are furthered.
If this was for medical research, how i interpreted the main part of the article - go right ahead, it is sad that animals have to be used for this purpose, if i had my way we would use certain offenders (rapists, paedophiles etc) for these types of experiments...but that is a whole other thread

For a bright girl, you are REALLY slow on the uptake when it suits you.
In formula 1 they developed ABS brakes to allow them to go faster for longer before slowing for a bend, it was purely a race winning invention, but it doesnt stop it being useful for safety too.
By the same taken, even if initial faceplants were done for rich people wanting to look different, the technology would still trickle down and benefit burns victims etc, research is researchand providing its well catalogued it is potentially useful for many different things.
I absolutely guarentee you that in your lifetime you will read about some child given their childhood back because of this technology!

you cannot guarentee that chip.like saying i guarentee they will find a cure for cancer
Its nothing like a cure for cancer, its a very mechnical process getting one persons face working on another persons body, thats TOTALLY different to solving cancer, they just arent even vaguely similar!

Chip - that i totally understand... but this techonology has been around for YEARS! Way before they had to practice on two dogs!
Now, i genuinely understand that medical research and medical testing is ESSENTIAL to be able to progress in a number of ways.
I just dont see the benefit, of carrying out a procedure that takes TWO perfectly healthy dogs, mutilates them both, but only lets one survive.
Why couldnt the donor dog have been one that has just passed away?

It might have been a live tissue donation where the required donation was taken whilst the donor was still alive to lessen any compromise due to lack of blood supply etc etc.
but you have just guarenteed that it will happen.all im saying is you cannot guarentee anything.although i hear where your coming from as technology will reach that stage i think but wouldnt guarentee it.oh and i agree with maria.they are doing it to make money.wheres the people doing it for human kind??

But the actual procedure itself was to progress medical research...who's to say they hadn't used non live tissue donors before and the transplant didnt take, meaning that both donor and receiver died?
I cant say 100% that this was purely done to make money, or was done 100% on medical research grounds because noone here has all the facts.
My opinion is that is probably WAS done for medical research BUT the sun and its sensationalisation has put its normal spin on it, dragged up something from two years ago to create a bit of public outcry.

Id have to agree on chip here. I can see Marias point of view and maybe there was better ways of handling the medical research but then we are talking about china
when you see how china treats humans in some areas then quite frankly those dogs were well treated
In terms of medical research on animals I'm all for it as long as its moderated and controlled to limit cruelty and considered necessary to help advance science. I dont agree with those eco animal freak terrorists who think the life of some lab rat is worth more than a humans and try and blow them up
Also i dont agree with testing on animals for perfumes/makeup etc as that not necessary as you can do such testing on humans in correctly controlled tests.

Question though,
1) is this for the general ability to mould the skin and ear onto another dog that has a different skull size or different characteristics. i.e. Although same dog sizes differ.
or
2) Is this to get the non-donors dog body to accept the skin and be able to continue normally, because if this is the case than stem cell graft has seen advances recently couldn't this be adapted.....without butchering two dogs!!!
