In formula 1 they developed ABS brakes to allow them to go faster for longer before slowing for a bend, it was purely a race winning invention, but it doesnt stop it being useful for safety too.

By the same taken, even if initial faceplants were done for rich people wanting to look different, the technology would still trickle down and benefit burns victims etc, research is researchand providing its well catalogued it is potentially useful for many different things.

I absolutely guarentee you that in your lifetime you will read about some child given their childhood back because of this technology!
