Default anyone feeling this credit crunch?

i had 5 cars in the auto trader this week.

ive had about 12 enquiries

8 were polish
2 were africans
2 were english

ive sold a £900 car to the africans who could barely speak english and swapped a car with one of the english who wanted to downgrade to a smaller engined car.it seems the only people spending money are foreigners.

very,very slow at the moment..........

a garage next door to me is always mad busy and for the first time today he had no work in! asking me if i needed anything doing.....

the other garage next door has just sold his 5k car and bought a 2k car so he can pay some bills.

not good feelings....

anyone else like this?
or is anyone unaffected?

My work are selling hardly any cars at the moment we are used to doing about 50 to 70 new & used a month but is very quiet.
Also the service department is suffering due to no aftersales work, warranty work from the cars that havent sold.sad times

I am pretty much unaffected Jay. Don't have much credit. Work for the Government so no loss of earnings or worry about getting laid off. Bit of dosh saved up for a house deposit, tho waiting until all this nonsense passes.

No fast cars to eat my money. Decent salary.

Feeling for you and all the people it IS affecting. It's time the banks that took the piss with spending and lending too the responsibilty for whats happened. If that means they take the hit for this then so be it. Sooner it's over sooner we can all recover.

Not yet no. The only time I might is if i lose my job and need to sell the cossie - I'm not sure what I'd get for it now, or how hard it would be to sell.

I think everybody will feel it somehow or another. I have finance and credit card facilities which in honesty without them I would be very quiet. Your right in saying that only foreigners seem to be spending, but they take so much of your time and communication is a nightmare.
On the up side, last week I sold all three of my 3dr cosworth's, my saff cossy and a few smaller cars, all cash deals, which makes me wonder if there is a credit crunch or not.
Never the less I will be buying very little now until ive finished my FTO/Csoworth track car project.

yes im feeling it quite bad as ive been unemployed for 3 1/.2 months now and struggling even to get to interview stage. Most companys dont even acknowledge your application and cant be bothered to tell you youve been rejected.

Luckily i got my pension which covers mortgage 2 months out of 3 then i need 3rd months money to catch up on bills and food!!! I only eat well because almost every evening i go to my local tesco 30minutes before they shut and graze all the 10p reduced stuff and freeze what i can!!!

about time something like this happens imo. Life seems to have been far to easy recently and i constantly see people buying stuff i think they cannot really afford on what they much earn. Work as an electrician has slowed down but not cut a\ny hours yet, also my ebay business has slowed but still going ok.

Im in a kind of lucky position by the sound of things.

credit crunch has not afected the company who I work for or the line of business we are in , we have enough work for all the people to work 7 days aweek and work 24hours a day if needs be

I do feel for people like warren though and for people in other trades as its not their fault what has happened.

I think the biggest problem is, that 30 years ago, you'd go and see your building society manager and ask for a mortgage. He'd ask what you earned and multiplied it by 3. Then you could go and buy a house at 90% LTV.

That all changed over the last few years purely because of GREED. Everyone wanted more more more money for their house so they could have a bigger one, needed or not. So lenders started letting folk borrow more than 3x their salaries. Whereas before if you wanted a bigger house, and hence a bigger mortgage, you got a better job. Not now. I work with folk with 300k mortgages on the same salary as me. I know I can't afford that over 25 years. So how do they? Easy... Extended term mortgages. All based purely on house prices going up.... Now america has stopped lending our banks money, the whole system is crashing down. And it's all the regular joes who don't have a mortgage thats 7 times what they earn, that will pay for it through their taxes as we pump money into these banks to keep them afloat....

I thought my job was pretty stable

I wasnt a direct casaulty of the credit crunch as i lost my job for medical reasons but its hit me now im out in the real world.

The really annoying thing is id been told i had 90% chance of keeping my job my the navys head psychiatrist then a panel of 3 doctors (1 GP, 2 surgical consultants) overruled the psychiatrist and threw me out!!

Annoying as id already commited to the house and id been saving up the previous year and bought an expensive car that i cant sell and dont want to really!!! If id known what i know now i wouldnt have bought the car and would be living off a £15 lump sum which could do me 18 months if needs be. annoying as the car is a one off and would probably still have been for sale in a year probably.

What im trying to say is its not always people being stupid and overspending, i had a £45k stable job, £85k mortgage and £15k in the bank so i thought id be sound to buy a car of a life time etc etc

Then you loose your job and your fucked. A lot of people ending up in similar situations.

yep its hitting us quite hard tbh, especially since we moved in july and have a house to sort out at the same time.

Started shopping in Aldi to cut food bills cos spending £80 a week means not left with a penny after all the bills are paid.

Thank god we bought a diesel as a runabout otherwise the car would be sat outside not being able to be moved.

Hard times ahead, its just cutting back in every way you can to try and keep on level ground. Thankfully dont have loads of debt but if we did definitely wouldnt be able to afford it!

Even dole offices are not safe, they are being closed, the business to be in now is in reposessions, as this will take off anytime soon.

my old man got a mortgage way back in 1978 and he paid it off with 2 weeks worth of basic wages and then had 2 weeks worth of wages to spend on other stuff

scroll forward 15 years and he was paying the mortgage off with 1 days basic wages and had the rest of the money for the month to save, spend, fritter away as he pleased

scroll forward another 15 years and my mortgage costs me a months basic wages with nothing left to spend

if my wife wasn't working and my brother wasn't paying towards the cost i'd be stuffed as everyone else, but i got my mortgage on the 3X rules as both me and my bro were earning enough

but it's everything else that's gone up that's really hitting people hard, fuel has absolutly fucked us all over and the costs of that are trickling down through the market place

i was thinking i'd have a nice morning off today to go and have a visit to junior's nursery, but i've got to work, so should i work to earn the money or go home and not?

you've guesed it, i'll have to work

Has it affected me, well yes as far as not getting as much for your money, but not really noticble. this countrys always been a rip off, so its what you expect i guess.

ANd one other thing i hate the word credit crunch. tho i actually think what is happening is a good thing.

People are now actually living to their means rather than beyond their means with CREDIT.

I hope maybe all this has made people less greedy. I hate people who have brand new cars, new this new that, just to impress the "jonses".
it sucks, im glad everyones been bought down a peg or two!

Its not effecting me at the moment, as I work for a fuck off big oil company which is still earning millions each day in profit alone

The only thing i'm seeing, as I guess everyone is, the increased cost in living, but fortunatly, me and my good lady earn enough each month for it not to effect us too much.... yet

Sad times really

got to agree with the job situation. I have sent off around 8 applications in the last 2 weeks, out of that I have had 1 phone call back, not even sure if I will get an interview out of it as I stay around 25-30 miles away and it is a 4am start. The early start doesnt bother me, I think they may be concerned as I cannot get public transport if my own car breaks down. Thing is, I have a choice of around 6 other cars from my wife and in-laws etc so that isn't a problem.
I know 25 miles from home isnt a big distance, but lately when I phoned about another job, the guy I spoke to on the phone cut me short when I told him where I stayed saying it was a personal preference of his not to employ somebody that wasn't local.

In terms of the Tesco shopping, my mother in law is the best at sniffing out these deals, she came home with 3 bags the other night, total cost £2.67. She likes to go to Asda around 6pm for the guy putting whoops stickers on things.

I do contract work for a major utility company and they have suspended all current capital projects. !!

In fact the current project I am working on will not be installed once completed !
(Just my companies involvment is only £5 million out of £92 million)

This is due to people not paying there bills on time.. so they say !!

I'm feeling it. I manage a pub and times are really bad i've been in it for 7.5 years and i've seen the trade change drastically in that time for various reasons. I went through quiet times at my last pub but nothing as bad as this. 5 a day closing at the minute. I feel sorry for all the leasehold places, they pay double what we do for beer as well as paying a huge ground rent and probably a mortgage on the ingoing. My boss is in his 36th year in the trade he says its really bad this time. He's even preparing for the return of the 4day week!! candles and gas lamps at the ready!!!

The country has been on a crest of a wave for the last few years and the banks have been the biggest problem. They've been making people greedy. When i bought my first house nearly 10 years ago we had to jump through hoops to get 2.5 times our joint salary for a 100% mortgage with 2 options repayment or endowment. If the banks didn't offer 5-6times salary and 125% mortgages prices would stay keen and ultimately realistic.

On another note the foreigners could teach us a lot.i dont buy into all this "country's done for because of the foreigners" They have the money because they work. Any work. We hired a polish lad and he was the best worker we've had for years. I offered him days off and he refused. he had 1 day a week off. Everyone i speak to that employs them says the same about the english they employ, lazy pain in the arse etc..... tell you when they'll work etc...

I know this is a minority but it appears to be more and more common. Do you want the money or not?

I could go on all day about this stuff. I hear it all stood behind a bar and theres a lot of people with their head in the clouds still. my views may not be entirely accurate to some but i speak as i find!

Just off the phone this minute and have been offered a job. I had an interview yesterday at my inlaws work and got offered the job.
I am only going to be on minimum wage as it is a trainee HVAC position. Dont mind doing overtime to get more money out of it. Sure beats the brew money though!
