Default Whats the cheapest car to insure?

got 2 months to run on my insurance policy on the M3 and i want to let it run as i want the noclaims at the end of it.

So, figured the best thing to do would be to change the car to the cheapest possible car to insure to get as much off as possible for the last 2 months, make sense?

so, anyone know 1) is it illegal to insure a car you dont own? (sure it's not) 2) whats the cheapest thing out there, fiat panda etc.?

be careful. it would be dodgy if the same car was insured twice by different people. when i sold my car i just left the insurance running on that and didnt switch to another car. i'd delete the post and do that

lamb, i'd pick a car thats scrapped or SORNED or something like that. not out for doing anything illegal tho!

thing is the M3 is like 1500quid insurance, so those last 2 months are worth quite a few hundred quid... lol even swapping it to a 328 (grp17) i get almost 100quid back

Ive got a 998cc mini you can insure if you want.

Its not on the road, so NO chance of an accident, and your insurance company wont look into if its taxed or MOT'd or anything as they dont care if you dont claim, which obviously you wont.

for all they know you have just bought it and want it insured to drive to an MOT which it fails and then sits there awaiting repair or whatever, they really wont care.

back in the day i bought a mk3 escort 1.3, parked it on the drive, insured it, then scraped it, and kept renewing the insruance on it year upon year to get my no claims up

not too sure if it wil work nowadays with compuers and stuff mind, but you can insure any car but some policies will ask you to be the owner of the car, although that doesn't mean your mane would be on the V5 cdocumentation

so yes, find a panda or something or even a 2cv and do it from there

1) yes, well sort of, its illegal to insure a car twice.

But I doubt you'll get any refund in the last 2 months of your policy.

Alex, if he uses my mini, i can just take it off my traders policy so its not insured twice, but it wont matter anyway as neither of us will be making a claim on it (cant as its not on the road)

anyway, its NOT illegal for 2 people to each insure a car for 3rd party

Clio 16v, escort gti? not exactly "hot" like a clio 182 or Type R but still might be enough.

Bear in mind the "drive other cars" on your policy, refers to cars NOT owned by you too Jim, so the MR2 would need to belong to someone else for you to drive it that way

yes, but he would get that if he left it on the BM, the only advantage of swapping cars is the potential refund.

doesnt the Mr2 need to be insured too realisticly speaking?

Jim, you pay more for insurance on an M3 than i do on a trade policy!!

Depends on his policy if it legally has to or not, I can drive cars that arent insured by anyone else for example.

But he will be continually stopped by the old bill if its not on MID of course!

How do you get a trade policy ? And what will they cover, as I have 2 cosworths I need to insure, and a daily runner. The trouble is both cossies are highly modified so 90% of insurers won't touch them.

Also when I rang for a trade policy they wanted VAT numbers and I needed premesis?

you need a premises because your trade policy only covers one car at a time, and if youre not using it, it isnt covered by insurance and is hence illegal under the road traffic act. Im not even sure you can drive it to tescos, park and go inside, probably can if the plates remain on the car.

Most private policies demand the car is insured, and then you have a 3rd party extension on your policy tho.

My policy covers all the cars i have on it as my own, and therefore are all covered.

My trade policy doesnt exclude modified cars, but it does exclude cosworths.

Handy that, cause this is of course a modified car but isnt technically a cosworth

as chip said . normal policys that allow you to drive other cars, have to have the other car insured . otherwise the minute you step out of the other car , it isnt techinically insured cos your out of the car and if its on a public road etc then thats breaking the law . i tyried to buy to cars and insure the cheaper one and then use the other one while it was in my mates name , and when i asked the insurance they explained the small print bit . just be careful mate
