why would a cossi run backwards

why would a cossi run backwards
when trying to start it keeps running backward for some reason all timing is correct im a bit puzzled

is it when cranking or when it trys to fire it runs opposite ?

Timing sounds like its out mate.
Do you mean it tries to fire then backfires and turns backwards then stops.
(maybe you have fitted a lhd starter lol)

did you time the bottom end up on the lug of the pulley tdc 1 and not the groove next to it??

only other main thing is that you have the dizzy in the right place pointing at the indent in the metal housing of the dizzy.

If the timing is ok and the dizzy is ok how can it run backwards?
the spark must be before TDC for it to fire backwards, somethings definately wrong

make sure the rotor arm is fixed on the shaft and not broken the little lug off

Has the bottom pully still got the little lugs intact and not broken off that the sensor picks up ??
Dunno just a thought as they dont run without the lugs

mine does it occasionally mate when its stopped just doesnt have the inertia to get past compression stroke,
so it just turns the opposite way until its off cam lobe
no probs only does it once in a while ...and yes timing spot on etc ..always thought it weird myself but just put it down to being a twin cam

ive built this saf from a shell engine come from ebay ive just been back in garage took all leads off marked em all up and refitted to book specs .
rechecked timing its timed up correctly with the lug just before the v the rotar arm lines up with mark on dizzy all spot on it just wont run
