Timeattack the real truth "Club class" the shake up.my views
as you all know i have been particapting in Timeattack since the start, well round 2 Silverstone 2006 evolved from GT Battle 2005, im taking nothing away from Glen,Andy and Rob it has come on leaps and bounds but needs looking at pro/club wise hence the shakeup.........
i really enjoyed myself 2006 good banter everybody on sole budgets no hassles, no car trading companies on big budgets, no sole entrants backed by tuning companies either free labour, car setting up, rebuilt engines/gearboxes free of charge, ex works mechanics i can go on.........
2007 dunno what happened only finished 1 round..........
2008 came back i was supposed tobe in clubclass?????(admittedly i was in a ex racecar but with only 360bhp) o yes so i was there was me no budget halfords jack, flicked back simon le bon haircut that my miss's had cut the nite before with 99p scizzors.
time had certainly rolled on at donington had a stroll round pits viewed all teams/ equipment thought this must be proclass boys wrong, carbon fibre this carbon fibre that "500bhp" here over there "653bhp" over there "750bhp" yes but im only on low boost, yes this is self funded but i have put it through the books it only cost a zillion pounds.Happydays
one thing that seemed tobe missing from 2006 was the fun factor, everyone had gone all too serious for my liking but Happydays thats life.
what needs tobe done for 2009 lets call it the shakeup all cars should be banded on power/weight ratio ;
should have recent power graph and a recent weigh in then put in bands a/b/c just for example
A)600bhp per ton and above
B)450bhp to 600bhp per ton
C)250bhp to 450bhp per ton
this way i consider tobe fare with stop all petty arguing and will give everyone an equal chance instead of the biggest wallet winner.
just my views everyone pays there money irrespective of budget or car everyone should have an equal chance of winning, not that im competing in timeattack in 2009 just feel it needs addressing.
thanks for looking please address all views to http://www.timeattack.co.uk/forum/vi....php?f=7&t=307

i must admit, the costs are worrying as i doubt id be able to compete with some of these cars - and its time attack that im aiming for next year.
walking around the pits most the day on sunday at brands made me wonder how some of the cars ar funded being club class, maybe they are just millionaires with a few hundred thousand pounds spare sat around so they can build some awesome toys.
from a spectators view its amazing, the machinary is out of this world - but from the angle of wanting to compete is becoming quite daunting

and the winner is..... money
results the same in life not just motorsport
stop them from spending it on power and people will just spend it on trick suspension, brakes, sequential boxes and other stuff not banned
perhaps they need a budget class

I was only thinking the other day Steve how much it had changed since GT Battle in 2005 when you basically just turned up in your track car for a laugh. THat was so much fun

I remember that Paul - Sean Bicknell was fastest in his Exige in the morning...until the track dried out

A far better format having a proper race, GT Batte was and is still one of THE best shows/track events I've been too!

Thats part of the attraction of drifting TBH. Its SKILL not what car you got. Its honestly about 80% skill, 20% car, unlike other motorsports when its more like 80% car, so need serious money if you wanna compete with the best of em.
And if TOTB and TA didnt have amazing cars nobody at all would give a fuck about it, so they cant restrict the cars.

They should change the rules and allow Kit Cars too in one of those classes. Power to weight classes would be fair.
Kit cars not allowed to race as it upsets people, but you can turn up in a 750+BHP car and an ex touring car driver???? Thats fair? NOT
To be honest there are a tonne of other decent race series out there where you will likely have more fun. You just gotta find one.
I would have a punt in Time Attack though if we were allowed........and I would also be funding myself with my halford trolley jack and Ł20 Tesco Gazeebo!!

Have a rolling road there (would be good publicity for Dyno Dynamics who have mobile ones) and weigh scales.
If a car is believed to be more powerful / lighter than claimed, then it can be pulled in after a session at randomn and when it is pulled, they don't allow driver / tuner anywhere near the car until it has been scrutineered?
Please be aware that this was the first idea that sprang to my head, so I haven't probably thought everything through
.
Make the penulities for any cheating the power to weight system extreme (e.g. removal of all previous points and banning for rest of season)?

SO easy to quickly change the boost level or map.
Also I wouldnt want my mega power car run on some shitty mobile rolling road with crap cooling compared to the road.
Running nitrous on the rollers is also usually not liked (cant remember why), and some cars run that too.
Wont happen.

you will never split up cars into groups will the same power cause as soon as they hit the track the boost will be turned up!
should have a class like group N rally cars and have it that all visible parts are standard that would limit some power,

I do agree Stav. Very difficult to define, police and scrutineer.
They manage to enforce a "no open wheel" class rule though, but I dont understand why?
I know Duncan took the whole field apart at Rockingham (I think) couple of years back in the Dax and "open wheelers" been not allowed since????
My guess is there is no big tuner presence in these type of cars and they are more your home build, tuned etc etc.....Which upsets the apple cart maybe???
Interesting debate though. Is Andy G's Focus going to be allowed to compete in Time Attack? My understanding is that is currently cannot so sorry if thats wrong.

Wow GTBattle, yep that was kinda cool werent it and the first dip into TA outside of Japan
I take it none of you were in the afternoon drivers meeting Sunday when we released some info regarding the class structure(s) for 2009.
We, the owners and operators, are aware that changes need to be made and sometimes it's been very difficult as TA is evolving and has been over 3 years, the standard of cars entering has improved immensley as has the drivers abilities and a decision we make for say the 2007 season has to be finalised really in 2006 so if things advance in 2007 it's difficult sometimes to second guess them and we cant make changes mid season, so in a way we are struck with it until the end of the season.
Rest assured though I reckon we are there now with regards what we have planned for 2009 and this has come about due to our listening and understanding what the competitors and spectators want. We will never move away from Pro Class as this is the top of the tree in this country for the street tuning scene to showcase what they (and we) can produce as an all round car and neither will we forget the man on the street who is also part of our awesome scene. The quality of cars and driving ability in Club Challenge has grown at a phenomenal rate and was always going to be the hard one to cap or structure. We needed to let this class grow and to gain information from it to be able to make the right judgement calls on its future, we are there now as we have the information to hand and feel the class is probably close to its peak, now we can make tweaks to it for 09 that will see it through for a good while now. Remembering also we have to not bury the classes under reams of technical rules and regs that make it a pain the butt for all concerned, finding a balance is damn difficult but I reckon we've got it for 09.
As mentioned we had a meeting at Brands on Sunday and had an open session with the competitors and team owners as we are pro active in this area and feel growth can only be achieved with a balance that incorporates all areas.
Money will always be an issue in any form of motorised sport but its important that competitors from all areas are catered for otherwise we will end up being elitist and thats not what we are all about I assure you, TA was formed as the scene needed a professional showcase for the cars and support within it and we filled that need correctly I feel so let us release our 2009 Series info and I'm sure you'll be pleased, well 99% of you will

Glenn, Warren has mentioned a few of the changes that you have been talking about, but will there soon be a written crirteria and list of these structured changes so people like myself can see if we are still able to look at entering for next season?
Cheers

Andrew has some time ago had a personal invitation to compete in TA within the prototype class!!! We had a few enquiries from competitors with highly modified chassis/engined cars at the start of the year and so brought a class in for especially them but as yet no one has come up and put in an entry. I do know AG is a busy guy and perhaps dates just havent worked but hey we have one round left, at Modified Live - Snetterton October 12th, and he is as per the rest of the season welcome to enter this event.

Can kit cars not enter this then? I'm only going by Pollys reply above, But can't they enter this class?
Hi Polly and Charlie,
We are, and have been, working hard on the 'tin tops' as this is where TA originated from and unfortunately it's very hard to accommodate the open wheel guys within TA presently. Of course I could say yeah let em in, lets cram em on track and earn a few quid from the entries but thats not the way to do it and not where we are coming from. We have had some spaces this year (due to people not being able to make it for whatever reasons) and could have quite easily took there money but thats not morally correct or right for the Series.
It was a very hard decision to not have them run with us from 07 but it had to happen due to our commitment to the tin tops that are a 100% of our part of the street scene. They were not dropped because they were too quick etc. etc., it was purely commercial and not political. I made a few good mates in the open wheelers, especially Duncan Cowper, but at this stage its just impossible to not only adminster these guys but to fit them into the class structures. TA Club especially has gone through major growth and requires changes to it now and can you imagine if we had open wheelers within this as well, then I definetly wouldnt get a good nights sleep I reckon
There are awesome cars within the open wheeler scene as well as great personalities and we would LOVE to have them in for the fun reasons alone.
As mentioned it was a commercial decision and not political and one day I hope to be able to offer these guys TA but first we have to get the formats and structures right otherwise we could have a few too many unhappy people on our hands from tin tops and open wheelers.
Hope this explains it a bit clearer.

Yes we wil have these out as soon as poss Kelv to enable you guys to make a decision as to whether or not to enter
Glen
For such a low budget series, power to weight bands will never work, they simply dont have the facilities for testing the power on the day is no more than the power stated, it would be FAR too easy to cheat it.
