Question Drove a new GTR today...my order is in

Finally drove a new GTR courtesy of Pete Farmer Cars (Cheers mate ) and it was even better than I had anticipated! The paddleshift box is the best I have ever experienced and on the road handling was as good as it gets IMO. I've had a grand deposit on a new UK GTR for 19months and last week Nissan finally released the UK prices BUT they can go take a flying fook at a rolling donut as there is no way I'm waiting another year (18 months if I want SatNav!) to have one of these puppies in my garage.
I have not imported a brand new car from Japan before. Can anyone advise me on the best way to go about it without involving a buying agent as Nissan UK will honour the warrenty on personally imported GTRs but not on broker supplied cars.
Any pointers appreciated

Many Thanks to Ben@GTC for the advice

10 weeks for delivery c/w a few choice Mines goodies ready fitted

Not worth doing until someone pays for all the type approval - which at in excess of £4k is going to put most people off from doing it. You need to find a dealer willing to make the jump, who can then make the money back by charging an amount to all the other people who then want the relevant paperwork. The trouble is, that unless you get firm orders, you won;t know how much to charge to recoup your money, hence why there seems to be a sticking point at the moment....

If you got the type approval, couldn't you sell it? 4k isn't a lot imo to pay to have the car a year early - the jap prices are no doubt going to be cheaper anyway - plus i'm sure u'd be able to sell it easily enough!

So as I understand it I buy a top spec with all options GTR for say 35k inc Jap deregistration then 2.5k for container shipping to the UK then VAT on the 37.5k so thats approx 45k Then import duty @ ??% then 4k to make it road legal so low 50s on the road?

There are imports already on the road over here, doesnt that mean approval has already been paid for by someone?

Its the warrenty issue with brokered cars thats putting me off going this route.
I have just found out that there is a model report that has become available from this week so its game on for importing one for the summer

This could all be bollox, but I got told that Nissan UK have allowed a few companies to register these cars as demonstrators only. But have said that they will take whoever imports, registers & sells one of these Jap-Spec cars to court.

Cheers,
Grant

Not all bollox.
Nissan UK allowing companies to register GTRs is bollox and even Middlehursts import demo car is not kept in the showroom but tucked away in a lockup behind the service bay for viewing only (its not being road registered).
Nissan have threatened certain exporters/brokers/importers with legal action but they are cool with personal imports ie; the car is imported by and in the name of the eventual registered owner. I have verbally been assured that Nissan will honour the guarantee/warrenty on personally imported GTRs by 3 different sources (Nissan UK and 2 dealer principles) but I am waiting on written confirmation of this.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'd like to be in your position and I'm very jealous right now.

Got a fax today from Nissan UK stating
"If you decide to proceed and personally import a new Nissan GTR your warranty will be void and the Nissan UK dealer network will NOT service or supply parts for your imported car either now or in the future"

So basically its a big fook off tablet from them

Anyone clued up on third party insurance based warranties?
