They talk some bollocks don't they.
Power and weight = emissions!!
Cars these days can be both pwerfull fast weighty and low emissions, certainly lower than MP's car to pop to the corner shop!!

I can't see anything wrong with limiting cars to 100mph. As long as it won't hurt acceleration - that's the thing that matters after all.

It is as simple as that and there is no way around it!

I thank god that im 62 & not 22.
No max speed limit, No cameras, so glad I had my fun in those days & not in this rule infested age.
Must admit the days of fast modded cars are nearing their end will give it 10 years & then the on slaught of the evil motorist will really hot up.

Rod you are correct, you could have fun back then, ok the cars were not so fast but the roads were better, in that there wasn't a straight bit of road to be found.

I remember when my mates and I managed to get an old BSA 350 running, it was 1968. The whole afternoon 4 of us took it in turns to blast up and down the road, until we ran out of petrol. I think it cost about about equiv of 10p a gallon.

the problem then was not the police finding out rather our fathers.
no licence, no insurance, nothing. (my dad was ok, he taught me to drive the tracktor when I was 10, also on the road, no licence)

How would the present gov ban fast cars? what is a fast car? Racing bikes will be banned soon, we'll have to ride mountain bikes with 13" wheels, short gearing, airbags on every limb, etc, etc.

Right now even some german groups are calling for speed limits on the Autobahn, whats the world coming to.

the japanese have created cars that have a top speed of 100mph, but the gearing is such that it gets to 60 in supercar challenging times... possibly a good way to go, however its not really on... if i wanted to be told how to drive and what to drive i would never go out without a driving instructor... these groups are idiots IMO...

Pretty much every car these days can go over 100. Our Mk1 Focus diesel did 115 no probs. Does this mean thats gonna be banned?

GAH,

all these emmisions laws are rediculous, they are all down to climate change, global warming etc. And its fooking natural, look back in history, how many times has there been drastic climate change. The world changes naturally. Do they mention how the earths orbit is changing bringing us very so slightly closer ot the sun, is that down to emmisions and aerosols etc? maybe the thrust of the exhaust gases coming out of our cars pushes the world around or something eh?

And europe, thats probably one of the best emmision emmiting whatever conitinents in the world.

Lets go over to america, lets all drive 30 year old v8s that produce 100bhp and 10mpg which produce a hell of a lot more than our little cars over here, and NOT be dictated to about how we drive. Not to mention places like india, southern america etc.

Well, more power only means more emissions if you use that extra power to go faster, but he is right about more weight, of COURSE more weight means more emissions, thats a totally unavoidable fact.

Can't see as problem. Why would we need cars to go over 100mph when our limit is 70?

You can easily have a car mapped for more power, while being more fuel efficient. If its more efficient its going to have less emissions surely?

The weight one, of course heavier means more emmissions if you are talking about 2 of the same car, one being heavier than the other, but that isn't what the report was getting at.

He says cars have gradually increased in power and weight, which increases their CO2 emissions
That isn't really true. I bet that a newer model fiesta is both heavier and has more power than say a mk2/3 fiesta (engine size for engine size) and yet would have lower CO2 emmsions.

Its all B*llocks.. they probably wont ban cars that can do 101 or more but the lousy goverment will probably find yet another way of taxing us on it. All this global warming stuff i rubbish too, and as it was said above it is all natural. Im no historian but when the ice age ended and all the ice melted away who was to blame that time... was it mr and mrs ugg driving around in fast cars or knocking up all the air miles... ofcourse not because those things didnt exist back then... obviously must have been the afore mentioned mr and mrs ugg letting off all those nasty emissions from their cave fires.

The sooner this bunch of half wits are kicked out of power the better.

You had all better stop farting soon as that will be taxed also

bu the new fiesta is also 20 years more develpoed than the mk 2

but think of it this way, if you were to put a cat converter onto a mk2 and remove the one from the newset versions, what would happen?

A modern car? Id be amazed if you could take a new 1.8i focus or whatever and improve it much in that respect with a remap!

Most manufactures these days put a LOT of effort into fuel economy.
Bear in mind though, that some emissions can go UP as you get more fuel efficient, so they are limited by fact its not purely c02 that gets measured when checking for type approval its other emissions too.

No shit sherlock, thats the point i was making That xx amount of years in development has lead to heavier cars (new saftey equipment what have you), and also more powerful, more efficient engines.

I wouldn't like to guess on a specific car, its not going to be as noticable on a newish n/a engine, but on a td or petrol turbo car i thought it was common knowledge you can expect a nice mpg increase (aswell as your power increase) on a well mapped car.

Agreed, but that artical was purely aimed at c02 figures not other types of emissions.

Doesn't matter who you vote for, whichever party has to put through rules from Brussels. There is no left or right anymore. Shame most people can't see this.

WTF?

Name one?

I cant think of a single car thats even close to what you mention barring certain Impreza RA and Evo RS models which were geared to about 125-130mph for rallying, not some law

They all have a 112mph electronic limiter in Japan by law, but almost none are geared for that, they usually do 150+ when de-limited.
