That isn't really true. I bet that a newer model fiesta is both heavier and has more power than say a mk2/3 fiesta (engine size for engine size) and yet would have lower CO2 emmsions.
bu the new fiesta is also 20 years more develpoed than the mk 2

but think of it this way, if you were to put a cat converter onto a mk2 and remove the one from the newset versions, what would happen?
