Default Supercharger drive belts

Seeing as ive got this Eaton M45 here I may as well make use of it, but I have a question...

The standard pulley is a multi-v belt rather than a toothed one, so how does it grip properly?

Do you need to knock up a tensioner etc?

Also, I could run it off the crank pulley that runs the A/C normally, but the pulley is about 3/4 of the size of the S/C one. Could I run a slightly thinner belt with no problem?

Looks like making brackets to mount it could be a cunt too, i guess needs to be held in dead well...

Yes its the tensioner that keeps the belt from slipping...

The belt is also in contact for a large area of the pulley (like over 50% ie more than 180 degrees).

The thinner the belt the harder it is to transmit the drive. So don't bother going less than whats on there at the moment.

The cherger needs to be mount rock solid.

So your saying the belt wraps most the way round the pulley? So I take it the tensioner is right next to the charger then, pushing the best round the pulley?

Sounds like an utter cunt of a job, maybe its worth changing to a different type of pulley?

The tensior has to be somwhere on the belt... but not necessary next to the charger.

There are often idlers and the like to help guide the belt.

I'm talking from a proper way of doing things.... you could of course lash it up!

Does your crank pully run your alternator too ? If it does just use that to tension it up.

I went from a 6 rib belt to a 3 to run the alternator when I removed my air-con from my Pulsar and it doesn't slip.
I know an alternator is easier to spin then a supercharger but it might work if you can wrap enough of the belt around the s/c pully.

If you go narrower than the std belt it will slip at high revs.

Hmm.

The crank pulley is that big i think id have to use one of the many pulleys on it, as another one on the end would make it silly long

eh?!

Its the diameter thats important as that determins how fast you spin the charger,

What boost are you going for?
What size is the charger pully?

I know that, but to get the ratio right ill need to get a custom pulley made for the end of the charger, as adding another to end of the crank pulley is a step too far as its v.long.

Esp as it has 2 spare places for belts (aircon and something else that im not sure).

Ive worked out the pulley size id need, thats not an issue.

dunno if its any help, but a friend of mine had a nightmare of a time with his charger belt slipping at 6k+ rpm, until he brought some kind of specialist drive belt adhesive....

Kind of a sticky tube of glue. Cured the slippage instantly.
