Every episode i cant help thinking tis set up that way. The chance of that caravan catching fire etc...
Also running over that caravan tent thingy could have killed someone. Pity as id LOVE to beleive it was all true.

In fact 5th Gear is starting to get its act together (generally) and makes a better car programme whereas TG now seems to me to be mess around (read: like some crappy sitcom on a barely watched Cable channel) for an hour and occassionally mention cars.

I still thought it was pretty funny tho
But it's true - Top Gear is now more of "Muppet Room" than it is "General Discussion"
And 5th Gear is getting to the point it's more like a "real" car programme lol....

the only bit that didnt look staged was the bit where he drove the caravan out of the petrol station and caught that post.
I wonder if that was a "real" mistake that caused them to decide that the caravan is now a write off and might as well do some more damage to it.

Was good tonight but not really about cars, And considering how far in the country side they was te firemen got there quick enough.
I think they have done it all now, So there doing any old shit to fill in the air time.

Its obviously all staged and it starts to annoy me but then something hilarious does happen.
For exmaple; The shots of the old godgers looking over in bemusement.
But yes what the hell does caravaning have to do with cars ?
Doesn't bother me if it IS car related.

As mentioned before, some of those "races" they did were truly epic! The photography, sound, editing etc - basically the production value was top notch.......
How can they get it so right with that, and then resort to mucking around for an entire episode.
However, an article in yesterday's motoring section of the Times reviewed Top Gear, and showed how its focus was to be very un-PC, and appeal to a much wider audience. Apparently, it said that Top Gear is the most downloaded programme currently running!

The episodes are like Chalk and Cheese sometimes with some focusing purely on cars and others, like you say, just mucking about.
I don't think it helped that we went 5 weeks with no TG and then got a pretty lack lustre episode.
Funny reading some the reactions on forums though, some people complaining how dangerous they were acting on the campsite, some saying how they are going to go out and make a proper car show and my favourite being a guy saying how Stig could have done a better job of driving the Vectra

I must say I did enjoy it but it was soooo staged and silly in places. Trouble is when they stage stuff like that it does make you wonder how much of the "proper" races they do are also staged.. Always wondered when Clarkson was speeding across country in an SLR or Aston how does the crew in the transit keep up and get the shots..

Clarkson, Hammond and May do a challenge like that all with camera men travelling with them and that's where all the internal shots are used from and some of the external ones.
Then a crew go out and re-trace the route and create all the arty external shots to go with it.
Takes them ages to shoot and as long to edit it all.
The crew ride in a V8 Range Rover, subsequently they can roll along at a fair ol lick!
I must admit that this episode was a bit silly in places, they should have stuck to the "how hard can it be?" features.
The amphibious cars and convertable Espace being particulary amusing.

i thought it was funny till they set it on fire
that went a bit too far i think
everything else was highly amisung, like the 3 point turn in the road
and where they got in the caravan and didnt put the legs down

On the whole I thought it was funny last night. Must be my humour
So obviously staged but hell, it was funny as fuck. I know it a 'car' show but I think its better that they have started going in different directions. Makes it better than all the other car shows that are just about, well. . . cars
still better than anything else on at that time on sundays!!
and pmsl at the vectra feature! everyone at work (vauxhall) seems to think the vxr's are awesome! glad clarkson ripped it to pieces and has been known to praise cosworths in the past!
