Always wondered when Clarkson was speeding across country in an SLR or Aston how does the crew in the transit keep up and get the shots..
It works like this.
Clarkson, Hammond and May do a challenge like that all with camera men travelling with them and that's where all the internal shots are used from and some of the external ones.
Then a crew go out and re-trace the route and create all the arty external shots to go with it.
Takes them ages to shoot and as long to edit it all.
