EVO VIII
Been looking to buy an Evo VIII recently.
Viewed one last night, an FQ 300 with mods taking it to 370. I didn't drive the car, but sat in the passenger seat and to be honest was very disappointed with the performance.
It didn't feel as quick as my saph (300-330 bhp i guess). Is it just the smoother power delivery? There was no kick.
Anyone own/driven one ? It's a shed load of cash for me to part with for something that could be a step back in performance.

Hi mate, i owned an evo fq330, to be honest it was a great car, handling was awesome has you would expect.
Downside was the servicing costs, and intervals, every 4.5k, compared to my 3dr though, they lack that excitment, well IMO anyway, no doubt others will have other views........i think the evo 6 is more hardcore TBH, more agressive, just depends what your after at the end of the day

I think the handling (so unfussed and the capability to make crap driver look like a god, lol) and the more refined delivery possibly do make them feel slower, but doubt it actually is.
I've been out in '260' VIII and a tweaked IX and neither of them were what I'd call slow by any means (in real terms).

The power delivery is very linear in comparison with cossies, so no kick up the arse on boost. Just progressive power.
I own an VIII MR340 which comes with around 345bhp standard, straight line speed ist what Evo's are all about, however it holds its own against Stage 3 RWD Cossies.
On track or around twisty roads Evo's are in a different leauge, unless your Cossie's set up like Rainbirds

I wouldn't say it was slow, just didn't have the surge of power I was expecting or probably more correctly, didn't *feel* like it had the power.
I dare say if I was behind it in the saph, it would have left me for dead, but at the end of the day, it needs to *feel* fast too.
I'll have to go and see some more I guess - maybe it was a bad one - although the boost controller showed it holding 1.6 bar.

Agree with all of this, recently started a love affair with these things, and I'm deciding which one to get.
What I found was that it's far quicker for the EVO to get to the 'oh crap I'm filling my pants' stage of speed, (as hitchikers' said, a speed far too fast to be considered sensible). The cossies feel faster, but by God can the EVOs hang on at high speed.
FQ400 and 340bhp EVO6 are my favourite so far, the rest didn't seem half as exciting. Despite the power drop, I'm still leaning towards the '6.

I've got an Evo V111 GSR with only a few mods and agree you don't get the feeling of power, but trust me, the power is definitely there! It reaches it's speeds so much more smoothly without the discernible lag that cossies have. Boost cuts in a lot lower down, also the 6-speed box on the Evo VIII is totally different to the gear ratios on a cossie.
When I test drove my Evo, I was really shocked when I looked down at the speedo to see that I was doing over a ton
it had reached it so smoothly and effortlessly, I hadn't realised it.
