well i read that a paddle will only do about 3-400 miles. but check the clutch ratchet. just pull the cable from the bulk head. if the cable comes away from the bulk head the ratchet is ok! make sure the release arm on the side of the box is returning fully to. failing thata it might be a box problem.

good luck

3-400 miles??? No way!
The 6 paddle clutch has been in my car 3 years now and done numerous trackdays without a hint of any problem. Have you changed the oil in the box lately?

I have a similar problem in my Mk3 Fiesta. My CTS gearbox was new last June, and has almost done 4,000 miles, with an AP 4 paddle clutch. From the beginning it was a bit sticky going into gear, and hasn't improved. I've fully rebuilt the gear linkage with all new parts from Ford, use the fully synthetic oil CTS recommended, have carried out the manual adjust clutch pedal mod as recommended by AP, and it just doesn't shift slickly. It's killing my times...went to Brunters two weeks ago and could only manage a 7.3 0-60 and 15.03 quarter I just can't get the car to perform to its potential. 230bhp in a Fiesta should mean sub 6.5 seconds with ease!

NO HAVENT CHECKED OIL TO BE HONEST. BUT THE CLUTCH STILL SEEMS TO OKAY I THINK, IT PULLS HARD ON BOOST AND WITH NO SLIP WHATSO EVER. NORMAL LITTLE SHUDDER NOW AND AGAIN ON PULL OFF. ITS THE ACTUALL PUTTING INTO GEAR THAT GETS DIFFICULT SOMETIMES? SOUND STRANGE DONT IT??

When I first got my car (6 years ago) it was a bitch to get into 1st and 2nd, moreso when cold. Changed the oil to the correct one and it made a vast improvement. So I'd try changing the oil as your first port of call.

Do you have a quickshift fitted perchance?

The oil recommended in the Owner's Handbook...

Transfer box - meeting the spec of SQM-2C 9010-A
Transmission - meeting the spec of ESD-M2C 186-A

Ive had this. Ive had it checked out by 3 people.... 1 said it will need a new clutch....

2 said it was fine, nothing wrong with it and not as bad as other they have had to drive with....

ESCORT COSSY gearboxes are meant to be a bit harsh to handle to power... (said by a well known mechanic i was introduced to).

As above, change box oil (do you even know when this was last done)

BUT its more than likely, just MT75 syndrome, mine is pretty good I have to say but I have heard of losts of issues with 1st and 2nd.

Oh and I have had 2x lots of fresh proper Ford oil through my box one to flush and one which is still in there..
