Default She's Running!

Well, after some initial "issues" caused by the supplied wiring digram having the V6 firing order wrong the important bits of my new ECU loom were complete

so we fired her up, AND SHE RUNS!!!!!

woohoo!!!!

cold start is... erm... shit but once she got up to about 20degrees it's happily idle (needs the IWSCV enabling tho, base idle alone aint quite enough)

even did a bit of mapping, she was running very rough, so we took a few ms out of the idle injction site and she ran smooth as a baby's bum i'm now an expert mapper

anyway, she should be ready to pick up next saturday (sun at latest) and i can'twait to drive her with the new ECU, just bliping the throttle at idle is SOOOO much more responsive than it is as standard, hopefully she'll be a bit more lively now

now, do i get her mapped ASAP or do i leave it a bit longer and get the cams fitted 1st (but risk not having the car mapped for the ring)

hmm...

gareth, it comes with a base map from emerald for the V6, but i doubt it'kll be perfect.

i'm thinking of just turning closed loop on and driving it like that till i get the cams in, THEN getting it mapped (as if i get it mapped before the cams i'll need to get it mapped AGAIN afterwards)

Alex,

cossie4i (off here)'s brother Mark he's done LOADS of wiring work on the 24v so was the best choice

gareth, ive got wideband myself (LM1+XD1 also ECU displays wideband output on live screen, just doesnt have an "autotune" function), but i dont i really want to DIY map (ie "ooh, its rich, ill take some fuel out") especially as i wont have detcans etc!

and no i dont travel to swansea no more

what did you do with your old loom mate
sprinkled holy water on it then burnt it

the loom was the MAIN reason for upgrading, it was a COMPLETE state!

here you can see the main ECU plug complete with scotchlocked wires (which were linking to the old 2.0 ECU plug!) some twisted together, and just generally, A MESS:

the pic doesnt nearly come close to showing how bad the wiring on my car was

now its all lovely and new and done properly

dave, i gotta take the cams down to kent, get the done (circa 1 week and 300quid) then get the car booked in to have them fitted (few hundred?), then get the car booked in for mapping (200) etc.

oh, and i've got about 500quid to last me a month. (work f**ked up my overtime)

so, if i get all the car stuff done, i cant afford to eat

but i think i'll live dangerously this month and get it all sorted, as next month i get paid 2 lots of overtime, so i'll be minted i might try and extend one of my loans for another 1K, that way i can get it all done in time

i'm on hold to egg at the moment, i recon 1.5k should be enough to get the basics done

for the money ive spent on my car i coulda built a 500+bhp esccos

My List of jobs to get done befoer the ring:

1)Buy + Fit Cams
Paint camcovers+plenum
Clean engine bay

2) Change Wheel Bearing
Fit GrpA Fuelpump
Change fuelfilter
Fit new brakes
Fit adjustable TCAs
Fit/Refit silicon hoses

3) Rewire fuel pump
Rewire Alternator
Rewire starter

4) Get wheel welded +refurbed + replace with my bet one!

5) Get the suspension setup

altho thinking about it, thats kinda the only jobs that need doing... ever. after that the car will have NO faults or old niggly bits!!!!!! imagine owning a perfect car! (bugger ive just remembered i need my door repainted coz the paints gone manky, so 99% perfect car...)

Jim,

I know a nice little garage in Sidcup that give you a hand fitting all that if you need it

https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...845&highlight=

Myself, Lennie, Tony Turbo, TheBishMan all use them

Oh and well done on finally getting ya loom sorted fella

And as for getting ya suspension set-up........GL Coachworks in Sidcup, they are doing mine on the cabbie and Kier's mk1 Escort as we both have adjustable set-up's and they do 4 wheel tracking/alignment

PM B.A.R. mate, you won't regret it

Ok so there was a few problems with the supplyed wiring diagram being a little how shall we say WRONG!!!!!!!

But we got there in the end and i did actually find the correct diagram in amongst all the paper work late last night too but hey it was already sorted

As Jim says the engine seams to rev very quickly if a little bit rich but we sorted that on the idle and had her ticking at about 850rpm smooth as a baby's bum lol now it just need a good mapping session.

Got a few thing left to do today like get the wideband o2 sensor linked up to the ecu and ill sort the fuel pump wiring and the starter too as that seams to have a mind of its own and it will be run up to a proper temp today to make sure the fans work etc then i suppose i had better put the dash back in or maybe i should leave it all on display

What you recon Jim??? ha ha ha ha ha ha

XR4x4RS
As Jim said speek to Barry at the XR4I Spares centre i think he has a spare loom can contact him on 01375672641

The photo Jim posted of his loom really dont do it justice it was a total loss who ever did the wiring in the first place didnt do it very well (yes im being nice can think of a few bad words to say about it !!) If Barry dont have one i may have a spare here but ill have to have a look Failing that get a standalone and ill make you a loom up

I seem to remember Dave Walker mapping a Cossie 24v that one of his mates had put in a dodgy cortina. It was boggo stock but with better exhaust (and no air flow meter? Do they have one?) and made 230 bhp.

Not bad really. I reckon you could be knockin on the door of 250 bhp wth some cams.

steve, i actually know about that, it popped off once, but seems to stay on nicely one of the "to-do" jobs is to get all the hoses re-fitted properly and with new clips

heard from mark earlier, aparently all thats left is to put the dash back together

having trouble with the LC-1 (wideband controller) tho, however ive just been reading and re-reading the manual and ive come across some things to sugest it'll need a bit more seting up before it works properly, but its no biggie, just means it needs to be plugged into the laptop and set up
