you should be able t buy the sender on its own.

whats it not doing? is it not moving up from the bottom when u turn ignition or fill up or is it just not coming down from the top?

I brought a 'fuel sender unit' (?) complete with fuel pump from a breakers for about £40, just to give you an idea of price. vaguely recall Ford wanted around £100?

I've seen XR2i units but they have a different bend in shape which holds the fuel pump too high up so not a good idea to use one of those, incase you were wondering. A mate and I found this out the hard way....

First u need to identify whats at fault. Disconnect the sender (im guessing theres a plug under the rear seat as i dont have a fiesta) and connect it to earth, if the gauge goes to full then its all good, if it doesnt move i'd say its the gauge itself.

If it is the sender u may not need a new one they can stick. Easy enough to free off.

hi just seen there are replys! thanks guys iv been chatting to bud-wise as he has owned the car before just asked about it and he said its always had this problem and he found that the sender was getting stuck on somthing in the tank and stopping it from moving? i havent yet got it down a looked yet but i shall check it on the weekend..

the car is fitted with and escort cosworth pump and has had a new tank fitted, would the tank be any different from the original?

i will also make sure there is not a fault with the gauge.

any ideas on what iv found out will be great. thanks alot

The cossie pump may be bigger, and it mounts on the sender stem so it may well be fouling the float arm.

the 'cossie' pump is the same size from memory, the problem was that the sender arm would catch on the plastic bowl inside the tank, i bent the arm slightly to try and clear it, but when it went back together it still never worked.

i did a few tests and the sender/gauge were working fine ( moving the sender arm up and down would move the gauge)

just got used to it

17yrs on, I'd hope he had it sorted tbh
Mk3 Fiesta's didn't have "secret menus" or dash capabilities like that either
