Default muscle memory?

hi all,

i used to train about 4 and half years ago, while training i had some good gains
but over the years of not training iv lost almost every thing of what i gained (about 2 and about stone).

anyway i was wondering if anyone knew much about muscle memory as i have just started training again and have had a few people say id get gains fairly fast due to muscle memory..

can anyone shed some light on this if its true and what to expect ect??

cheers

i dont know if there's any science behind it but i trained for years then stopped for about 4 years. This year when i started up i got really good gains early on but i dont know weather thats because of training well or muscle memory.

One example of the top of my head is dwain chambers. He got banned for steriod use and even now after x amount of years people stll say he should be banned as some people believe it to stay lurking in your muscles for years after then pop up again when training hard again. Perhaps this can generally be said for muscles in general but im not to sure myself

Definately not a myth.

I trained seriously for about a year then broke my left arm in 2 places (some may remember pics i put on here). I was totally out of action other than cardio on an exercise bike for about 3 months.

I'd say within another 3 - 4 months back at the gym i was back to where i was before, more or less. So what took me a year before, i got over 4 months afterwards.

2 and a bit years ago is a long time though so maybe not quite the same but the fact you've trained and probably know a bit about training will ensure you get decent gains over the first few months.

It defo exists although not sure over what type of time period it may last.
I trained a lot and gave up in around 2004-5 because I got bored of it. I started training again around 2008 and within 3 months I saw substantial gains again, then not long after got bored of it again and stopped. Im considering starting to train again so hopefully theres still some muscle memory there after about 7 years away from proper training
