Default is this true? cvh gearboxes/fiesta 1.1 gearbox NEED ADVICE PLS

PLS SEE MY POST TODAY

my mates rs turbo gearbox is knackerd, for temp fix hes gonna fit one he has sat round till rebuilt his

he says any cvh geabox will fit it, the then pointed at a l reg 1.1 fiesta sat inside his workshop and sat thats the new temp gearbox!!! its an old pushrod engine lol
however when i popped the bonnet and examined the box it looked from what i could tell exactly like a cvh gearbox, bet it would pull like hell from the lights with the ratios from that, i said surely not that wont fit and he was willing to bet £20 it would so i presume hes confident lol

It will fit as it uses the same bolt pattern as the CVH, but will probably blow up on the 1st hard launch due to the ratios and the torque going through it

gave my mate a hand to change the box today as the ramp was busy we had to do it on the deck also couldnt get the car that high so all against us

the box is bolted up fine, mounts changed for the life of us we cant get the cradle in right a real fucking ballache and head scratching moment, its like we need to move the engine or something its just sitting wrong, god knows whats up

near on 100 percent its not the box as i had them side by side to change the mounts over and reverse switch etc

wonder what the hell we could of done wrong, if slide the cradle over anti roll bar we cant for the life of us get the rear one right, with only one jack its a pain, got the rear of cradle bolted up and the front resting on the roll bar, cant seem to get it no were near the mount slot at mo, thinking maybe we need to get it on the ramp to see whats what atleast with a transmission jack will be easier to move the engine,

forgot how much of a pain it is to be led on the deck working like that i really nearly did take a hammer to the thing, if it was my car i prob would of done lol

The main diffrences will be to the cradle and if if has a bolt on or welded clutch arm. Apart from that the xternals are the same.

so the casings are deffo the same, well were using the rst cradle and rst mounts bolted to the box, would be nice to put the possibility of gearbox being slightly different to rest

the box has only got to last a couple months, the cars totally std at the mo so its only for hom to poodle to work and back in

Isn't that normal?

Lee, don't bolt one side up until you have a bolt in each side started, engine will move back and forward obv as its only on one mount if box isnt bolted up!

If u look at the mounting bolts for the engine mounts on the gear box u should notice they have built in spacers and I am sure the escort ones have a smaller spacer than the fester ones u need to change them I had to today for a escort into a fiesta hop this helps and is not to confusing

now that is something i didnt look at, on the gearboxes theres studs sticking out from the nuts and the mounts slide on and tighten with nuts over the top

are you saying the spacing on the gearbox nuts and studs sticking out is different? if thats the case you might well of hit the nail right on the head mate? all i can say is i had both boxes next to eachother but possibly just possibly i didnt notice

Yeah the studs the mounts slide over where they screw into the box they have built in spacers compare them just an idea but as I said had to screw the fiesta ones into the escort box so should imagine yours will b vice versa let me know if the studs r different cheers.

its bloody weird this one

we spent an hour on it today, it wasnt the bolt mounts, we dropped the roll bar to give the cradle more room, the cradle is now bolted up and the mounts for the studs have just about gone through the cradle holes so its sat in place, the trouble is its not quite right as its slightly rotated, the mounts can slide up and down in the cradle i presume so you can move the engine a tad.

can we move it can we feck, i had a lever bar inbetween the front gearbox mount and the front panel lifting to try to physicly rotate the engine a bit
tried pulling on the inlet manifold with all my force but feck all

basicly its prob 15mm out, only came to light when i went to b olt up the gear selector and its no were near the hole on the gearbox lol

tried jacking it up tried brute force etc

wondering if i should put engine on jack and let the engine top mount go and see if that helps, i have left the bottom mounts loose so cant see why they wouldnt slide in the cradle

any ideas?

I had this problem on a fiesta mk5 which is the same basic shape as the mk3 frst.there's three bolts on the back of the box where it mounts to the cradle.their studs on the escort(poking out) and caphead bolts on the fiesta box.I tried doing all the thigs you said to no avail until I noticed this.
Pulled the box off, swapped the bits round and it flew back in,everything lined up spot on.

on mine were the mounts slide onto the box is some 17mm nuts and some studs, which when you undo takes the stud with it , the 3 for the mounts are exactly the same size on my fiesta box and the rst box

so basicly the gearbox mount bolts/studs are identical

its one of those things that wtf have i done here, luckily the cars in no rush to be fixed and its played with when theres free time but somethings wrong
