Me and a few friends have just picked up a Mk1 Fiesta for £50 that we plan to turn into a trackday toy(Hopefully)
The problem being that we havent done any home work before we bought as it was a bargain so we dont know :
What engines would be a direct fit /need a bit of welding.
Suspension - help would be great
Brakes - help would be great.
We plan to work on this over x-mas and have it up and running for the new year its only going to be used for fun by 4mates and everything should be as cheap as possible as like I said its a toy.
Any help would be great.
Shaun

you should take a look on www.xrtwo.com mate but the site is down at the mo,
loads of people have done engine conversions and plenty of people to offer advice
good luck with your project ,
i have a mk 2 which started life as a 950 pop plus but is now running full xr2 running gear
goes a little better for now but the thing at the moment seems to be 2.0 zetec engines , have a look on www.zetecinside.com for some good info

for cheapness/ease mate id go with an engine like rodders has got. whack it on some 40's, a nice decent exhuast and strip EVERYTHING out the car appart from a seat, a couple of dials and the steeringwheel, go as light as posible - chop the door frames appart, plastic rear windows, chop the frames out of the bonnet and boot to just leave the skins etc etc and itll go very well indeed.
ive done a CVH conversion and nowadays with the zetec available so cheap its worth going the extra mile if you want to be messing about with engine coversions. like i said though, rodders lump on 40's and with a few other tweaks would go very very well in a stripped out lightweight shell.
brakes wise, i had mk2 calipers, drilled/grooved disks and kevlar pads on mine from rallydesign which were cheap as fook. (disks, pads, braided hoses, all for £120!) and they really do stop well when you work em, never had them fade on me either.
suspension wise id just pick up some normal lowered springs and adjustable shocks, strut braces, bushes and leave it at that. you COULD stitch weld the shell if you wanted to get serious about it....
oh, make sure you get some decent tyres too!!
