that link above seemed too cheap so this advert warns about sj4000 fakes so look at this one and do your research on a genuine one.

I have one very much like the above. Can't find it on eBay right now, but I think it's essentially the same. Works perfectly well. I bought it because I figure I can stick it to the outside of the car and if it comes off then I haven't lost a lot. I would be very reluctant to do that with a GoPro!

I keep thinking about getting a dash cam as I do roughly 28/30k per year in my car but the thought of a massive thing stuck to windscreen is off putting

I then got a hedcamz 1080 and it's brilliant. Very pleased with it. Cheaper than a gopro and every but as good in my opinion. They do a cheaper 720 one too.

Last year I was also thinking of buying something like a GoPro. But then I figured I could also use my iPhone to make videos. When you keep the phone in hand the quality was quite good.
So after that I bought a mount to put my phone in. The nice thing with using your phone is that you can use an app to add data, like lap times, speed, G-forces, etc. to the video.
The video quality from my iPhone using the app wasn't very good. But I should have locked autofocus and exposure and disabled video stabilizer (although apparently you cannot fully disable it on the iphone). You can also connect your phone to an external camera from GoPro or Sony, which should give better quality. Or you can use them both and record 2 or 3 videos at the same time.
