Talking Wireless Network Help!

I am posting this on behalf of my Bro, any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Guys,

I am all out of ideas so was hoping some of you guys can help me out as I am having major problems with my wireless network.

I moved house a couple of months ago and signed up with BeThere, had stonking reviews and met my needs exactly.

The internet was fine for 10 weeks, no problems at all, wireless worked, wired worked, no slow down no nothing.

A couple of weeks ago I started to have some problems, my wireless internet would just at random times, intermittently drop for no reason what so ever. The laptop I was using would disconnect from the router and the network would disapper from the list of available networks on my laptop only to reappear about 30 seconds later (sometimes longer than 30 seconds but generally around this time)

I tried everything, such as changing channels, setting manual IPs for the network adapter and so forth and still the same thing happened over and over.

I then decided that the Router had died a death and needed a new one so went out and bought an Edimax router as they had outstanding reviews.

After finally getting it setup......... The exact same thing happened. I am at a loss, Never had an ADSL connection before, always had cable so im appealing to you guys!

When connected via Ethernet, the connection is flawless. No problems and no disconnections at all. nothing has changed in my house, no new gadgets or anything that could interfere with the connection or anything

Troubleshooting so far:

1/. Change wireless channels - Tried 4 different channels
2/. Change SSID / WEP Key
3/. Update firmware of modem router
4/. Set manual IPs for the wireless adapter on the laptop
5/. Tried on 4 different laptops, all experience the same problem
6/. Turning off my cordless phones (someone told me this could interfere with the connection - Didnt fix it)

I am at an absolute loss what to do but it is so frustrating as I work from home so have to sit uncomfy next to the router and I really want my wireless back

The model of the Router is a Edimax AR7266-WnA

The ISP is http://www.bethere.co.uk

Any ideas / help would be much appreciated!

Thanks Guys!

Does sound like interference. Next door could have something that is screwing it up.

Also look for:
Wireless Doorbell
Wireless video sender

Ask if neighbours have any issues too.

Is this just the laptop having issues ? It could be the adapter in the laptop weather it be an internal one or an external one. I'm really not sure what else to suggest other then viewing the log files on the router to see what ip addresses have accessed it. It's possible that someone has cracked your password and is raping your internet, but I've not known it to cause signal loss. See if someone you trust can pop round with a lappy, or a smart phone with wireless on it.

Do you have any other nodes you could test (To eliminate the laptop?), if ok then I suspect some kind of interferance. What do the logs suggest on the laptop?

Thanks guys for the input

I have tried it on a few different laptops aswell as my samsung galaxy s with the same results.

How would I find the log files which show the connection dropping etc ?

Thanks

Not the laptop, happens on more than one unit aswell as smartphones etc.

The power saving is off anyways as it happens, thanks for the suggestion though!

When you are using wireless do you sit in another room? If so what is between you and that room, you must consider all electrical devices.

Do you have a cordless phone? What other devices do you have?

May seem extreme but try turning all other electrical devices off to see if you continue to get the same problem.

All part of the ball ache process that is troubleshooting.

Don't just turn them off and expect an immediate solution, turn all off, reboot laptop/router and try sitting right next to the router, then move to other rooms/areas of the house.

You have got the little filters connected to any other phone points in the house haven't you?
Keep the router away from the telly (particularly if it's a plasma).
If you have an upstairs socket, plug the router in up there.

The micro filters won't cause the wireless connection to drop, it would only cause problems with the actual net connection itself if they were not installed, there job to put it simply is to split the line into voice and data.
