Default RAM upgrade ???

I'm adding 2GB of RAM to my desktop PC which is currently running 512MB, what I need to know is do I remove the 512 module and put the 2GB one in its place or can you run the both of them, teck guy at PC World said that if I leave the 512MB one in then the 2GB module will run at the lower speed of the 512 Module is this right?

I am using a PNY 2GB DDR2 800MHz PC2-640 OPTIMA DIMM if that is any help, I think that the existing 512MB module is a Infineon 64T64000HU3.7A DDR-SDRAM PC2-4300 (266MHz) - [DDR2-533]

All the product info is probably irrelevant but thought I would give it just in case.

Dont use the 512mb mate its a different speed to the 2gb, plus, are you 100% sure the 2gb module is compatable with your motherboard ????.

As said above, remove the 512 stick and put the 2 gig in it's place. if you feel that the 2 gig isn't enough if your motherboard can handle it slap another 2gig in with it making 4 gig of ram. my old pc ran 3 gig of ram and flew, but the new machine I want will have at least 8 gig of ram in it

Cheers for confirming that, as to whether it is compatible with my motherboard the answer is I don't know! I done a scan on www.crucial.com/uk and it gave me there recommendation, I took that info to PC World and asked for one to match so I'm just relying on the knowledge of others,

The Motherboard is a Micro-Star International MS-7387

I'm not sure I would need that much, I don't do gaming or other RAM hungry things so I will see how I get on with the 2GB, it should be enough to notice a difference, my next step will probably be a better hard-drive so look forward to yet more Questions

Oh BOLL##KS need some more help gents I have just changed the RAM module and now there is a Windows product activation window,

it says: since Windows was first activated on this computor the hardware has changed significantly.
Due to thease changes windows must be reactivated within 3 days.

It asked me if I wanted to activate now or remind me later, so not knowing what the F##K it was I clicked remind me later hoping that it would let me carry on as normal but it does'nt it just keeps shutting down.
so I have now clicked on "activate" and it is giving me 3 options:

1, activate windows over the internet
2, I want to telephone a customer representative to activate windows
3, remind me to activate every few days

Any help lads please on what it's all about

Just do the phone option.

It will ask you to confirm it's only installed on one PC, then give you a new code.

Simples.

Just done the phone option and it got me to enter a 54 digit number which was displayed on the screen, when I done it came back telling me that it was not a genuine windows product, so it looks like I will have to phone them and pay for a new code?
