you need raid for a fast load up

i run 2 sata drives at the mo but the new set up if i can afford it will run 4 sata raptors

 

I switched to a SATA drive and it made an immense improvement

 

still running some old ide drive got a sata for storage so far ..
hopefully the new pc will be better speccced up looking for 4-6 gig ddr2 with 4 x sata drives, nvida XFX GeForce 8600GTS XT card, on an asus P5K Intel P35 mobo might even go for a dual core aswell

You'd be better off getting 2 gigs of ram and a 8800GTS 640mb the 8600 isnt very powerful at all.

ok timed it last night ... 8 mins 56 seconds to load a map might have to drop the setings a bit 21 inch widescreen might be the problem

 

8mins thats seriouly bad

when you do your upgrade get a sata drive 16mb+ cache, the maps will load 100% faster, i really noticed this when i started using my new one over the old one which was sata 2mb cache.

fingers crossed i should have a working pc by the weekend

i never timed a map loading on 2142 but id guess at about 20-35 seconds maybe for a fresh map, and then once its loaded one time, the second time it loads the same map its well under 10 seconds

 

 

 

ok managed to lower it a bit 5 mins ...wooo hooooooooo dropped the shaders to medium might have to goto playstation 1 settings soon

 

get a new computer mate

 

Upgrade the hard drive to a 7200 rpm 16 meg cache one, or the 10k rpm one

 

can't afford a raptor dan well yet ..

finally got to play bf2 today (after about a month now!) downloaded that xfire, how does it work?

 

Basically you add people to it, then, when they are playing ona gmae, click the little box next to it, and it show's you the ip addy of the map they are in, just click it and you get straight in providing the server ain't full

do note though that your ranks and points wont count in that add on as its not part of ea, so medals etc you win don't go on your profile.

as you say no points ..its a pain as there are some cool mods out there.but punkbuster wont allow them

tbh double edge sword as some hackers can spoil the games with cheats

last time i played bf2 i still had the WRONG TEAM RED/BLUE ERRORS thought that had been fixed moons ago

thats a server bug, i've had that once or twice with with some servers, usually the crap ones

one of the most annoying things i keep getting is it'll sometimes reload about 2 or 3 times as it didnt like the first two or something gets very annoying when you need to kill someone now!

tried out the add on, its very good but very complicated as well, all these new little rules you have to do, and you can't just go gun ho and shoot everyone, you have to engage the enemy get in position line the shots up etc but i guess thats the whole point of it its ment to be real.
