2.0 Zetec turbo or hi reving 2.0 on throttle bodies
Need to decide between the two as I want a new engine for my track combo van. 1.6 RS turbo at the min.
Now I don't want a big boost hungry car that will be fast in a straight line as I want usable power to race with. And I would think 200-250 bhp will be plenty

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Easier to get that power with a turbo I would think.
Budget is a big factor.
Have a read of this, might point you in a direction.

Budget is no problem, car will get whatever it wants, just don't want to build a engine with power that won't be usable or 100% reliable after some very hard use.

200-250 will be expensive if you want to keep it N/A
High ish compression (8.5:1 ?), small turbo (T3) set would be a better option
There has been a few conversions like this running below 300 with great throttle response

Yes 250 ish on a N/A would be in the region if six grand with dry sump etc, but I bet by the time You turbo a Zetec with management and steel bottom end for reliability I would of thought it would be just as much

Go Duratec, 250bhp will cost a fair chunk less than getting a Zetec to that level, Zetecs need a LOT of work.

Thanks all for the comments, just looking for different ideas. I don't buy secondhand engines as I build them my self and a friend does all the machine work. Thanks

No mate not even close! You will need management and forged pistons and rods either way, but for a ZT you need no head work, cam or custom manifolds to achieve your target BHP of 250..... get a black top, build your forged bottom end, use ST valve springs (or devil developments, etc) and FRS 1.8mm gasket, FRS exhaust manifold and turbo.... done.
