Default kit car builder needs some info

Hey guys, I have on its way to me a kit car chassis, its designed to take granada/scorpio hubs differential engine and box, but to be honest with you all i dont like the thought of using a little v6 and also have a chevy V8 waiting for a new home.

I have asked the following on a granada owners club but i dont think performance is really their cup of tea so think you lot will be able to help me more.

whats the granada diff rated too? I will be pushing a maximum of 450hp and 450lb/foot through it. will the stock granada item take that abuse or will it need replacing every track day i do? the cars 1000kg in weight which will place it under less stress but im still a little worried about its power handling.

Secondly if the diff wont take the abuse is there a cosoworth item i should be looking out for which will?

Regards

Rob

The Cosworth 2wd diff is just a Granada Scorpio (LSD) diff anyhows.....alot of people have run these in 450bhp cossie's but...in my opinon, anything above 350ish bhp needs a stronger diff if your gonna use it properly. Ford od plenty of other diff's that were used in place of the 7.5" jobby tho...try ebay

Yeah the granada LSD unit is the same as the Sierra Cossie unit...but always a tad cheaper at the breakers lol With the only difference being the driveshaft flange's.

What gearbox you gonna run on it chap??

Im currently thinking along the lines of a borg warner 6 speed. not sure on ratios yet though, want 200mph capabilities. the aerodynamics and power will be there for it

the cosworth or the granda range diff will not last 10 mins with 450ft/lb of torque pal, the planet gears will just shatter. the first stage of upgrade albeit a bit expensive is to change the lsd unit and carrier, i would recommend a gripper/ZF plated type of unit for your use, this will ensure the planet gears and sun gears are fine for your use, but these still use the std crownwheel and pinion.

make sure you get a low mileage unit - preferably from a granada 7.5" diff to ensure the best cwp, shot peen it, replace the lsd unit, make sure you have the larger shafts and 1/4 shafts from a 2wd cosworth and that should do you ok for a good while pal - trust me ive broken them all
