Default RST Escort Sumps....

Hi

Can someone please tell me if the sump pan is the same on a Series 1 as on a Series 2 ?

I would like to replace mine on my Series 1 for a new one while doing the underneath freshen up, and can get a Series 2 one relatively easy.

Failing that does anyone know the part number for one from Ford and if they are still available ? Gasket too please

Thanks folks

Michael.

Cheers m8 !

Just need someone to confirm they are DEFO the same though. I was under the impression that the oil pickup was different on an S1 but maybe thinking of something else..............

HI,

They are different, on the s2 the oil return fitting leading into the
sump is different , you can mod it to fit, just compare the two and make
room for the pipe if fitting a s1 to a s2.

Thanks mate thats along the lines of what i was thinking. Is it a straightforward mod to do or more hassle than its worth ? It will be a Sump designed for a S2 that i would like to mod to fit to an S1......

MICHAEL,

The s2 sump should go straight on as the s2 engine has a pipe after the
oil return on the block, if you see a s2 engine with the sump off, you
will see the return from the block then follow it and you can see the approx 10 to 11 mm, pipe im talking about it helps the oil return to the sump better, if you fit a s1 or std cvh sump it hits on the pipe and you
have to make room for the sump to seat against the pipe, i did mine
but you should be able to just fit the s2 sump to a s1, without any problems, compare the two and you will see,

HI,

with mine noticed it by chance doing a restoration, S2, so the sump
i assume was off either a s1, or possible a std cvh, not compared
that but if the oil capacity is the same i would say the std sump is as a s1,
but may be baffled differently, put it this way a xr3i of the s1 era is the
same sump.

Either there is a hole under the oil return pipe or there isn't. If it's missing, then it's a 1 minute job to make one. There are no other differences between the different 1.6 cvh sumps.

Mike, why dont you just get your original one cleaned up and repainted? that would be the best option I would have thought!
