Default Engine Kill Switch in track car help please???

Hi folks,
Posting this on behalf of a mate who is building a Track Car.
It is a 1989 Xr3i with mechanical injection, he has relocated the battery to the rear of the car and fitted a kill switch at the front.
The switch works fine( i.e it will not start if not in place) but if you try to turn the key and remove it whilst the car is running it does not turn the car off.
Can anyone shine any light on this please????

Thanks in advance

J

Im assuming you are talking about a Battery Master switch???

If so, there are 2 types.

A normal kill switch and the FIA version which has the altenator protection part on it.

You WILL kill your altenator if you run the engine with a normal one switched off.......

you have been warned........

goto somebody like Demon tweeks online and you'll see what i mean about the 2 different ones.......

Hi CosRush,
Thanks for the reply. The strange part is tho, if you remove the wire from the battery to the switch whilst the car is running the car still runs. So basically removing the live feed.
The fuel pump is still running etc, is it the alternator that is keeping the car running ???

Thanks again

James

Thats right

The battery is only really used to actually start the car, from then on the altenator provides the necessary voltages and charges the battery......

Hence why if you have a slipping fan belt, you'll eventually have a flat battery and the car wont start..........

But if you bump start it (engine turns altenator) you can get it to fire......

Hope thats not teaching you to suck eggs
