Thats right

The battery is only really used to actually start the car, from then on the altenator provides the necessary voltages and charges the battery......

Hence why if you have a slipping fan belt, you'll eventually have a flat battery and the car wont start..........

But if you bump start it (engine turns altenator) you can get it to fire......

Hope thats not teaching you to suck eggs
