Default Damsel in distress !

please help !

I've bought a 98 mondeo 2.0 GLX, - with a Zetec engine. It's completed 70 k miles with full ford SH. It runs hesitantly under load, especially so with the air con on. When the throttle is released it kangaroos a bit, and the flat spots seem to be consistant within the rev range (if it were on a dyno graph it would look like the tourqe curve dipping and then picking up in certain places)

I replaced the HT leads, fuel and air filters, TPS, cleaned the injectors, plugs and checked the oil weight.

I even bought and fitted a k+n 57 kit a I thought it might be air/fuel mixture, and I reset the ECu.

Any ideas pls.... the underlying point to me is the difference between ac on and off - it's far worse when running the AC.

Thanks

hi, what does it idle like? i know the 2ltr engine has a rubber 'T' piece sort of under the coilpack, & these split sucking in air & cause probs like this. the air con being on is just adding extra load & therefore making the engine struggle even more, may be worth checking the charge rate & earth connections etc, if all is well, it may be the maf, but i would get a diagnostic check first.

Hi - Idles just fine... and gentle driving doesn't show up the symptoms - its under load (and speed) that it crops up.... especially in the latter half of the rev range.

I would get the ECU interrogated to see if it is flagging up any error codes before you go much further.

If there is any codes in the ECU then it will point you in the right direction without testing every sensor, wire and valve etc....

Hi

I had that done and that flagged the TPS - but changing made no difference.
