Smoking ERST
blue smoke!!!!!!
1.8 zvh escort rs turbo.
when started on idle no smoke.
when reved from idle blue smoke.
when accelerating on the road blue smoke.
when accelerating very hard loads of blue smoke.
when i back off after boost no puffs of smoke.
10 bar reading for compression in all cylinders.
no oil leaks,
all plugs in fairly mint condition.
no oil in any boost hoses or intercooler or dump valve.
loosin enough oil in a week to visibly see on dipstick.
is it possibly the turbo oil seal on the exhaust side sucking oil and leaking into the exhaust and burning it???
or is it valve stem seals ????? even tho they are brand new!!!!
or a piston ring??
help for the love of god

sounds like rings mate , only other possibilty bein the seals on the turbo shovin oil out the exhaust , check there aint any oil in the down pipe where it bolts to the turbo,.

hello mate
sounds like an odd one ive got a similar problem. my engines done 3.5k on a rebuild, been parked up for 2 months, ive re-built the turbo, and started it up....blue smoke so my first though was B*LLUCKS ive fucked the turbo, but now ive found oil coming through the exhaust prt on the head for number 1, very odd, the turbo is fine, can't be rings it had brand new 0.5 over size mahle pistons.
are all your compressions equal, and how many miles has the engine done? I'd say turbo, but u never can tell without looking at it.
anyone got any ideas on my problem, just one cylinder with oil in the exhaust port

my engine is just fully rebuilt with new ring valve seals and a secondhand turo from ebay with NO play at all( but seals could still be gone.
all compressions are equal , they all go to 10 bar after the third rotation of the engine.
In your case safechav i would say that the head gasket to oil way is leaking into your cylinder number 1. onlyway to find out is off with the head.
is the plug in cylinder 1 wet or oily??

Yeah i agree with what your saying, but the engines done 3.5k i just can't see it, not one bit of smoke before i parked it up, been sat for i'd say 2 months, shouldn't cause problems. Not a happy bunny

I expect it will be, one thing u could do but i really don't like suggesting it so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't hold it against me....
you could try removing theoil feed from the turbo (and blocking it obviously unless u want your engine rust proofed), and then start and run the car. Obiously with no pressurised oil entering the turbo, thiw sill determine if the turbo is making the smoke? DONT WHATEVER U DO DRIVE IT LIKE IT, that would be suicidal, the turbo's going to spin even on tick over only about 4 rpm, so don't do it for too long, but this should help u reach a decision, and if not the turbo should still be ok as loing as u DONT DRIVE IT OR REV THE CRAP OUT OF IT.
when u say squeeze the gasket twice?? do u mean the torquing sequence of the head bolts?
yeah i agree, ive got to change the cam as i was giving it a good old thrashing, a few days before i took it right round to the rev limiter in 5th (130+, sh!t scary), then about a week later i was having a good run down a country road n a lobe went on the cam, hence the reasing for parking it up, so anyways when i do that i'll check the stem seals but they were brand new when the new valves were fitted on the head.
