Default help/advice needed please!!,Turbo sorted now

Right, driving my s2 today, in second gear, put my foot down a bit, and bang from the exhaust, then loads of white/blue smoke, i thought shes blown up, so i got a tow to my lock up

i thought right wip the head off and see the damage, the car runs fine on idle, and when revved, oil pressure fine, no knocking, but the smoke was a white and blue colour, so i was thinking headgasket, so while taking the turbo pipes off i noticed the shaft wouldnt spin, and the little nut on the end was loose!!

so i just took the turbo off, and its seized solid, the turbo was rebuilt 3 months ago by universal turbos via pts in luton, 535 quid, my engine has done 4k since rebuild as in spec in sig, its a stage 2 turbo running 21 psi, they told me its fine for 21psi, so thats what i went for, ive heard a few people on here having problems with turbos latley not lasting long

i always do all the precations looking after the turbo and engine, so its not down to abuse,i use mobil 1 oil etc,

would the smoke indicate the turbo problem or have i done internal engine damage aswell?

I'd say just the turbo is knackered m8 although still a bitch but not as bad as a rebuild etc regarding the turbo you may have to fight for a warranty as most turbo builders WILL put the blame on something you/maintain which caused the unit to fail so the lot and put up a good fight and DONT take n e shit m8

sorry to hear it mate
like you say white smoke is usally water in the engine, does sound like your blower has had it so get that sorted and take it from there.
Turbos have shot up in price, you would at least expect them to last as long as the warranty, just to let you know i bought a turbo technics stg 3 unit for mine 7k ago. Never caused any probs at all, but then the company has been going a long time with a great reputation.
Do you allways allow the engine to fully warm up before you pick up boost?

like alvyn says, put your foot down with them

You will find it very dificult to get a replacement turbo as 99% of the time the guarantee means shit all.

im sure you do look after it mate, i also have rebuilt mine over winter and i too have suffered a break down on the only part i didnt rebuild, the gearbox. They tried telling me my oversize wheels were causing it to rattle even tho it did it soon as i set off with no miles on it!!!!!!!!
there are only so many reasons a nut comes loose and they all leed to the builder.
good look mate.
