ERST Running Problems
Guys,
I am hoping someone out there can give me some help. I recently brought an RS Turbo Cabbie with a fooked engine. I rebuilt the bottom end with new piston rings and big end bearings. I had the head cleaned and skimmed (the previous skim was awful) the valve guides replaced, the valves reseated and new valve stem oil seals.
I put the engine back together and it has never run fine since. Recently I have managed to get the car to start on the button and idle but until you get up on the turbo the car coughs and splutters. It seems like a timing problem but I have checked the cam belt and I havnt jumped a tooth and twidling the distributor seems to make it worse. When driving its even more hesitant.
I have also had problems with new spark plugs as the only ones that seem to work are the old ones even tho I brought the same ones from my local store.
I know the guy that had the car before me was running a chip so I had to adjust the fueling back to where it should be but in the end I had to turn the fuelling down almost two turns.
Please help me, Please.
Rob

The timing should 12 degrees before TDC on idle with the vacume pipe blocked off. I'd start from there and get your fuelling checked. When I did my conversion I blew the engine due to poor fuelling. Which had brand new pistons in. Expensive mistake.
This link is a good way to get it running something like to get it to a garage to set the mixtures set up properly.

Get the fuelling back to standard settings, if necessary with help of a tuner.
Are you using a std ECU? Try changing that with one of which you know it's working properly. That rules out ECU problems.
