Default Please Help?? RS2000 stuttering under hard acceleration.

Dear All,

'93 RS 2000, 89k.
The problem started as just a 'cough (loss of power)' under hard acceleration about a week or so ago, however now its got to the point that car stutters under normal/hard acceleration, if i back off, and accelerate reallt gently then its fine. Its not every time but its becoming more frequent. Any body have any suggestions. Ive already earthed the EDIS module direct to the battery, and that hasnt helped. Plugs are fine. Seems to be more so when the car is warmed up.

Any suggestions would be great.

Gareth

PS: Can anyone confirm the tracking settings on my car, as local garaged set it to parallel like the Cosworth, and its light as hell and doesnt like going in a stright line, the normal escorts are 2mm toe in? I take it that this is what it should be.

it is likely to be a breakdown in the leads them selves ive known a few people with the same sorts of probs.. you accelerate.. and it holds back then finally goes..

you say the plugs are fine. Have you checked the plug gap?

The Spark plugs are all at their 1mm gap, the plugs have a light grey tint (normal). How do i check if the leads are breaking down, keeping in mind that i can only really get on one end of 2 leads, as the other end disappears straight in to the coil. Under the plug cover i have 2 coils - A coil per 2 plugs, with the coil sat directly on top of 1 with a lead running to its neighbouring plug (twice).

Cheers

Gareth

I had a similar problem on my mk6 escort and it turned out to be the mass air flow sensor, problem is that a new one from ford costs about £100 luckly I got a second hand one and my car has run great since.
