Default Focus 1.6 taco limp mode when cold

Hi
Title should say tdci

I have a problem with my Focus which seems to be fairly common though mine is slightly different! The car starts fine but when I set off and rev over 2000 ish rpm when cold the engine fault light comes on then won't rev above 3000 which I guess is limp mode. If i shove my foot down harder on the throttle it will give a little splutter and the engine then stops completely but a quick off and on with the ignition and it starts again fine and isn't in limp mode but again if I give it more than around 3000 rpm the same thing happens. When warm the engine fworks as it should. Looking on here glow plugs seem to be an issue and I wondered if mine could be the same or because the engine dies completely do I have a different issue? Thanks

I think you have more and/or different issues than just the glow plugs.
Get the fault codes read.

Then read the fault codes when the engine light is on.
That means do not restart the engine when the light comes on, not even when you're at the dealer, just keep it running until after the codes are read.

Done that as well tried reading codes when light is on or off when driving in limp mode or when engine stops altogether but nothing I thought something would come up and btw I'm not using some cheap eBay reader it's the local garage so a decent bit of kit. Weird

What fault code reader are you using (make, model, etc.)?
And what's the model year of the car?

I'm not sure of the make of the diagnostics machine. Car is a 2006 model year
