Default Clutch problem?

I have a ford transit 2005, whilst ticking over there is an occasional knocking/rattle which I have discovered stops when clutch is engaged. Sometimes it crunches into gear but otherwise runs fine. Any ideas?
Cheers...

Sounds like the clutch release bearing rumbling. I would probably leave it until you think it needs a new clutch. The parts are probably only £20.
