Default Mondeo diesel mk3

GUYS . I WONDER IF YOU CAN HELP ME PLEASE . I GOT THIS 02 DIESEL RECENTLY AND HAS DEVELOPED A FAULT . QUITE COMMAN BY THE LOOKS . GLOW PLUG LIGHT IS FLASHING AND IN LIMP MODE . I AHVE NOTICED IN FUSE BOX IN ENGINE BAY THAT F8 FUSE HAS BLOWN [60AMP]. IT HAS GLOW PLUG SYMBOL AND COOLING FAN SYMBOL .I HAVE REPLACED THIS FUSE AND ON TURNING ON IGNITION IT BLOWS AGAIN . I THOUGHT I HAD FOUND FAULT WHERE I NOTICED MAIN CABLE TO FAN MOTOR WAS SHORTING AGAINST SUBFRAME . TURNED OUT IT WAS NOT THAT , AND HAS BLOWN ANOTHER FUSE AGAIN . IT CRANKS OVER BUT WILL NOT START . THE EGR VALVE FITTED HAS NO ELECTRCAL CONNECTION SO IT CANT BE THAT . UNPLUGGED FUEL PUMP AND STILL BLOWS . ANY HELP WOULD BE HELPFULL PLEASE
REGARDS

The fan during is fairly common

Everything else will probably need a diagnostic machine plugging in

the fan wiring is fairly good, but on occasions that i've seen the wiring exposed to the elements it does seem that it suffers much more than any other plug, especially so close to the rad when the actual wires are run between all the fan arms

i'll see if i can find some pics as i took some when i took mine apart

ah right . after taping up the wire which had rubbed , i left the plug diss connected to fan motor , and the fuse still blows . i can get it started after cranking for a while , but it runs awful ,no power , smokes and lumpy . maybe the fuse thing is just a coincedence but im sure its related somewhere . dont really want to take it to dealer , as i have already picked there brains , but the person i spoke too dont seem to clever

Just had a look and F8 feeds the glo-plug relay pin 5, can't see on the wiring diagram it has anything to do with the fan (on a diesel).

You may have a glo-plug or glo-plug wiring, short to ground. Glo-plugs snap off on these like carrots unfortunately.

Is it white smoke, black smoke?

hi there , thanks for that , its white smoke , but must admit did not take much notice . where is the glow plug relay , and where do they snap off ,[in the head]. these cars seem to suffer a lot with this flashing light

White smoke usually points to injector faults on these, or lack of compression.

Glo plugs usually snap off flush in the head at the end of the thread, they're only a small size plug. Inlet manifold needs removing to access the plugs/wiring.

Glo-plug relay is in battery junction box (fuse box next to battery)

Glo plug light flashing when running acts as an engine management fault light.

Diesels do not have to comply with EOBD-rules untill 2004. This diesel certainly does not.
So, any EOBD/OBD2 scanner is useless. You need a Ford specific diagnostic machine to read codes and data.

yes but injector fault would not cause fuse to blow . i will disconnect the wire which connects to glow plugs . so if it blows again , cant be that either . trouble these big fuses are quite expensive , and at 60 amps rating there must be a short somewhere .
seems like these cars are shit , and they have made them over-complicated .. and to recode injectors seems quite expensive too

Glo plug relay is top right of the 4 relays at the bottom of the fuse box

fuse 8 feeds pin 5, then the output is pin 3 a green/orange wire to the 4 plugs.

Like I said, you must have a dead short to ground on the glo-plug circuit to blow the fuse 8 (60a)

I don't think the running fault is caused by the glo plug fuse blowing, personally...

You need to use an ammeter (able to cope with 80+ amps) to save yourself ££££ keep blowing fuses...

What I meant regarding the glo-plug light flashing, is that it acts as an engine management fault light, not just glo-plug operation/faults.

It's possible, but if you have a rough running, lack of power, white smoking, (and probably knocking) Mondeo diesel you have more than just a glo-plug circuit fault.. In my opinion..

i must admit i think your right . it was running fine . it was pouring with rain , i was going home , going up a hill , then loss of power and glow light flashing . would not start in the morning , and ford told me to disconnect battery for a while . left it all day and still the same . pissed off to be honest

Needs that fuse blowing problem sorting then diagnostics to see if and what codes are in there, then leak off tests (to check the injectors) and fuel pressure tests on live data.

(presuming TDCI) Usually P0251, P1211 and P1664 are amongst the favourites.. all fuel system related.

Loads of threads on here related to these codes.
