Hi everyone. I've converted my 2.0dohc ghia sapphire to the big boa cosworth, during the conversion I switched to non abs, as I didn't like plus it didn't work anyway.. I also fitted cosworth rear calipers wich seem to be a good job!
Now I think the master cylinder is off a 1.8cvh. The brakes are good but feel as though they are a little soft and don't have the same stopping power as before, I know the bigger engine also plays a role in this.
Front brakes are standard ghia and a hydraulic handbrake is fitted although that doesn't affect braking..
Now my question is this; are they any master cylinder upgrades that are just bolt on? Perhaps ap racing and the like??
And also what would be a good front brake upgrade? Standard cosworth or slightly bigger ap's, brembos etc, I'm not a Richie rich so bare cost in mind...
Cheers for any help guys

fit the abs stuff back on again, it's much better when it's working
you did run all new lines yes as the abs system has the pipes in the wrong places for a non abs car
but if you've gone through all that hassle of changing all the pipework and stuff you need to use the all disc master cylinder and abs set up because the 1.8 stuff will be pushing drums on the rear and 240mm calipers on the front so you won't have enough fluid being moved/displaced internally and will have shit brakes
putting on even bigger calipers will make the problem even worse

So does that mean I can use the abs master cylinder? And will it work without the abs plugs? As the loom has been removed and I won't be refitting it.
I read about using a mondeo td master cylinder as they are bigger and even heard of using a land rover 1 as its bigger again? Would need to find out how much modifying is involved first though..

You need the all disc non ABS DOHC 8v Sierra servo & M/C.
Or use ABS without valve block but with wiring etc.
And get some mk3 Mondeo calipers with pads to suit, 300mm discs from Focus 170, that is a cheap upgrade. Depends on your wheel size though.

No, not all.
Yes 16inch should be okay, but don't take my word for it, you'll have to ask someone who has done it.
I bought the calipers and had them reconditioned, got discs and pads and 17inch TSW Imolas, got the servo & M/C just not fitted any of it yet

Aw get it fitted! Not that big of a job anyway :thumb:
I read there that an s2 escort turbo has a 25mm m/c which is a straight bolt on replacement on the sierra,
Would be a real good replacement if it could be found!

16" (minimum) wheels should be ok under the mk3 calipers/ 300mm st170 discs, as the mk3 uses 300mm discs too (and 16" wheels fit on a mk3 mondeo) - somtimes it depends on the wheel used - some are tighter than others
