Default help with underside rust

hi im restoring my sierra and have started on the bottom rear, wire brushing, sanding and wire wheeling it. i have removed most surface rust but where to go now. was gonna waxoyl it, but the more I keep going the more i find.

Would it be best to gut the whole car and send it some where or can i do anything, i know there are a couple of bad areas that need welding.

and idea, many thanks pics to follow.

If you can weld and cut what's stopping you . Painting it is the easy part

From what i can see from your photo's, personally, i don't think it looks bad at all. I would cut out the two small sections on the rear chassis legs seen on the last photo, but you will probably find it will only be the outer skin that needs patching. Other that that, id carry on wire wheeling around the spring mounts then coat everything in red oxide/lead. That's what i did with mine then painted over the red oxide. Once finished, I bought 2-3 tins of Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 and filled all the legs and inner chassis parts with the stuff.

I didnt take the whole underside to bare metal. The shell on mine was pretty good and the only bits it needed were the rear chassis legs (exactly the same place as yours) and the rear corner sections of the sills (again the same as yours). I wire wheeled all the stone chip from the areas that had surface rust but left the rest original. I just thought there was no point disturbing it.

I used red oxide on all the bits a welded and wire wheeled and then painted the whole underside together. Here was mine.

This was it just cleaned off.

After red oxide and grey paint.

Mine will look like that one day. what did u use to clean/degrease the rest of the underside. I have pressure washed it to get the worst off before the rust removal started but it is still covered in crap. Was gonna end up using bucket of water and sponge then a engine degreaser

As above doesn't look bad at all looks quite a solid one. if you can weld have a go yourself fella . just make sure u cut out all the rust or it will creep back . Then get some POR15 from frost's and apply as per. trust me it's good shit. then prime ,stonechip and paint .

cheers Al
