Default new engine or head gasket

Hi guys was just wondering if it would be easier yo replace the engine or the head gasket.
Symptons i have are whilst driving round town temp sits in middle but fans come.on constantly. On a run at 75ish temp boils right of red line. Slow to 60 drops to normal as.quick.as speed drops

Bought from bloke who said put went and he replaced it. Thwre was no heat from heaters which i sorted by flushing system completely and fillin heater by disconnectin pipe from back of stat housing. Still boiled up. Took stat out now temp sits between 95-116 from the dash trick. Bubbles in expansion tank. So thinking the gasket has gone. But what is the easier job. Pls

That all depends if it's a Veyron or a fiesta how much work is invloved. HG will always be easier to do, depends if it's worth it though.

I'd say head gasket would be a lot easier. DIY provided you know somewhere to give the head a skim (any engineering shop should be able to do it)

have you checked that the actual coolant rad isnt blocked or you've got an air lock in the system? and a head gasket would be far easier imo!

Have bled system completly ripped rad out and flushed. Refilled according to ford tis. Still boiled up. Put some seal-up liquid glass. Now have hardly any pressure build up but the temp still hits 100c with stat out.. poss pump prob was told it was changed but no guarantee. Looks new though

Dodgy water pump?

Not sure if these would be the same but the mk4 Golf water pump has plastic impellor which often breaks up,
Or sometimes the pump turns but the impellor doesnt, It just sits on the shaft which is more noticable at higher RPM as the Temp rises

does the level rise or differ when reved?
would rule out the pump if you can see its doing something and if the level didnt rise or change then maybe pump probs
