my inlet manifold sounds like its ticking is this normal? it also rattles slightly when reving gently . ive listened up close under bonnet and it sounds possibly like the rattle is inside the inlet manifold? could this be the case that its knackered or could there be something else around that area that is common to rattling?

The injectors tick, BUT if there is a noise from around the inlet that makes a ticking it is most likely your IMRC, is it loud from inside the cabin? If this goes it should throw a fault code though.
The ST170 engine can be quite tappy/ticky due to injectors and solid lifters
