pinto injection engine missing when you rev it
car idles up and down a little and then if you rev the car up it dies out as if you reached in and turned the key off
but then returns to idle

we put the timing light on it and it is 100% on the timing cam and ignition timing

and when the the timing light is in it isnt losing spark at all

has to be a wiring problem i think maybe someone will know?
all earths look good

please help

you don't have an air flow meter to measure the air going into the engine

and if you have fitted one since the picture was taken, see that when you move the flap inside that it's moving nice and smoothly, otherwise it's the sticky track inside that's causing it to mis

i put a fuel pressure regulator on it and tweaked it ever so slightly bit at a time until it wouldnt go at all each way

the fuel rail may be a possibility thank you thank you for all your comments all help appreciated

how do you suggest i fix this? could i take put anything in the fuel to flush out the injectors or injector rail if they are maybe clogged with dirt or should i remove them and replace or can they be cleaned?
and how do you suggest i do this?

it's mainly afm on the blink, make sure the wiring is sorted

otherwise check the throttle position sensor as they have been known to go wrong too

you need the ones with the gold wires from memory but they seem to be all the same across the for range fomr those years

one more thing, you've got the electronic dizzy yes? is it pluged in correctly? you have to unplug it when you crank it with no spark as otherwise it can short itself out internally and it's fucked then

afm = air flow meter

tps = throttle position sensor

you may need to reset the base idle to get the tps set up corectly, lots of info over on the ford sierra forum if you need any pointers

Remove the inlet manifold, very easy to check the head as the ports are egg shaped rather than round

Is the centre electrode inside the dizzy cap still in? Had them fall out as you fiddle with them to get them on then the car idles but misses or cuts out as soon as you rev/drive it.

ok so today i removed the injection system and put on a twinchoke carb inlet
i fiddled with the dizzy to get it idling just right and fiddled with the fuel pressure regulator aswell

when i done this though the car will only idle and will just cut out if revved
the exhaust is putting out smoke but the oil level is ok

sounds to me like the fuel pump/ regulator can only supply enough fuel for idle and then cuts out when you want more, im guessing this engine is run off an electronic fuel pump being that its efi? i would look at trying a different pump if the regulator is working fine

Check the fuel pressure, as said, it sounds like the pump can't cope.
