Pinto re build crankshaft problems
I am re building my bottom end and have used a 205 block which i have had re bored to 93mm.
Has all been going well up untill now.I picked my crankshaft up today after a re-grind from scholar engines. They also supplied new main bearings to go with the crank.
The problem is when i install the crank with new bearings ,on tightening main caps the crank becomes very tight and will not turn.
any ideas would be appreciated.
cheers steve

Yes, the crank may have been ground to cosworth size and supplied pinto bearings as there is a 1thou difference in crank grind sizes. Ask the guys to mic it up and check what the shells were for.
Ill check with the the workshop, however they knew the crankshaft was for a pinto and when i recieved it it was tagged with measurements of 0.75 mains and 0.25 big ends. They have supplied 0.75 main bearings, yet when i attempt to tighten down caps the crankshaft is binding heavily.
It is possible that the crank is bent especially if it has "blown" a big end previously
Having built many Pintos it is surprising how easy even a Cosworth crank can go "out of true"
Heres my latest build

Problem solved,
It turns out the main caps i recieved with the block from e bay were not matching (They were from another unit) .
On returning with block and caps to scholars who were very helpful, they measured all the bores and got to the bottom of it.
So now having second unit re bored by scholars with matching caps.
