Default Crank Grinding & Balancing

Anyone know of a 'good' local place (Manchester) to send my crank off to be reground and bottom end balanced? Would be useful f they could give the flywheel a skim as well.

Yes mate - Quasar enginering in stockport are very very good. They mainly build race engines for single seater racing, and are very well respected. They have very specialist equipment, and are well known for their precision balancing. I dropped of a friends crank this morning, and they are doing some work on my 300+ bhp 1600 cvh too.

Always been told that, regarding a cossie lump, have the crank reground is a bad idea as it weakens it. Not sure what engine your on about though. Can't fully back up this claim with fact though, just something i'd heard.

Its the crank from my RS turbo/standard CVH crank. It's got standard shells at the mo so has never been ground before. Can anyone confirm if grinding to the next oversize is a bad idea?

whys it complete crap mate , unfortunatly when running a high power cossie lump its best to use standard size crank

most of the time a polish will do , if you can keep standard size and then all the bottom end balanced this will be your best bet

Obviously the thicker the journals the stronger they are going to be. The big end shell melted on my car and left mild scoring on the journal. Goin to take it to a couple of people over the weekend and see wot they say.
