Default stalling @ 4 - 5000rpm

I have just bought a ford sierra rs cosworth which was built in Iceland in 1998
The car is absolutely beautifull and runs great except for one problem

(please bare in mind that i am Icelandic and there fore the english is not excelent )

Ok when I am racing my car it runs great most of the time, but it does have the tendancy to stall when I get to 4 - 5000rpm (feels like it looses air pressure or fuel pressure) but seeing as this is the only car in the country I am having a problem with finding some help (there is one guy, but he is busy working so I dont want to bother him to much)

About the car: It has a stage 2 turbo kit from GGR racing, a big ass K&N air filter, 3" exhaust, ermm..... and lots more, just ask if u need any more info

Can anyone help me?? It would be very much apreciated

I can also be contacted at - olafurkarls@gmail.com

Im expecting to find you are running too much boost and hitting the overboost protection. How much boost pressure are you running?

i am running just about 1.0bar of boost... i just boosted it down from the former owner (his uncle borrowed the car) who had it at 2.0bar I boosted it down to 1.6bar and it started behaving like this and then took it down to 1.0bar.... Which is where it is now but still stalling like before?

How do I fix this if it is the overboost??

have you checked the plug gap,it may be to small for the lower boost setting.
it best to start simple
how did you lower the boost level.and was the car running ok at 2 bar

when the car was running the 2 bar it was apparently ok at first but then it started "overboosting" (stalling)... but now that u mentchen it I dont remember it behaving like this before i replaced the spark plugs

I just lengthenned the pin to the wastegate as I was told to do.... Is there something more to it? If so, please tell me

The gap on the plugs... how do I know what is right??

Regards
Olaf

the plug gab is appx. 0.6-0.7mm depending on what plougs you use...

Can u rev beyond 5000rpm or does it shut down there??

I can get it to 5000rpm (but not as often as i'd like) but it does have the tendancy to stall when ive been driving for a while (effectively loosing ALL power) when the car is hot and has been runnig for about 30 - 60 minutes....

Could it be the Silicone hoses clamping and cutting of the air supply or something of the sort??

They do get a bit soft when the car is hot.....

I am running the car on "Motorcraft Double Platinum for escort cosworth" plugs from "GGR"

i had the same problem on my 2litre turbo astramax van, when you really boot if it feels like your hitting a wall, like the hoses are clamping closed.

IT WAS INCORRECTLY GAPPED PLUGS

as above, check and re gap your plugs!even if they are supposed to be pre gapped.

higher boost=smaller gap

I have fixed the problem, but it wasnt the sparks, the problem was when i got to the 1.0bar mark there was the slightest bit of air getting out at the intercooler, so i just tightened the screws on the "clamps" and presto, the car is now fully functional and bossting 1.4bar

Thank everyone for there help
