Fiesta 2001 door locking problems
Hi there,
I've recently developed a problem with my 3 door Y Reg Ford Fiesta Flight and was wondering if anyone could help me!
Usually when I lock a door the central locking kicks in and both doors lock automatically.
However, now when I lock either door from inside or out the door locks and then unlocks itself again.
The door lock on the alternative side doesn't move at all, when before it would lock itself.
If I lock both doors at the same time then they lock successfully, which currently means that at the moment I have to lock the car from the inside and then climb out of the boot.
I've looked at the corresponding fuses and no problem there. I've also reset the computer system by disengaging the battery, but still no luck.
Is it some kind of communication problem between both doors?
Many thanks,
Rennettio

The problem is almost certainly a sticky lock (Which won't help with the current weather conditions), what is happening is it's trying to lock the other door but it can't so the opposing door reverts to the state it was in before.
Lubricating the lock should solve this problem, while your there do all hinges and other locks as well.

Thanks for the advice martysmartie, I put some WD40 earlier but I'll try a larger burst. Reckon the weather could be anything to do with a squeaky front right suspension over the past couple of days? It's felt like the whole cars fallen apart since Wednesday!
I've tried the WD40 approach but hasn't had any success, both doors do lock as long as you push both handles in at the same time.
Both doors don't lock from the outside, unless you lock both doors with two keys at the same time.
Any other ideas?

Then it's a faulty door solenoid I should think on the passenger side, the way to test is to disconnect the wiring plug to it and try locking again at which point the C/L should work, but obviously won't lock the passenger door.

door cards off and disconnect one side and then see what happens as marty says
if its not a problem then do the same on the other side
more than likly it will be something stuck but in most cases it will either be the internals of the lock mechanism or a stuck cable

hi i have the same problem, i unpluged the p/s and used the fob and it locks but oby have to lock the p/s manually, but plug it back in and it does nothing on the p/s and the drivers side locks and the unlocks, ive tried removing the module from the p/s and pluging it in and trying it with the door shut, still doesnt do anything, but if i put my finger on the p/s cental locking modual and push it down it kicks in the motor and shoots it back up, any idea whats causinig it?
if you have unpluged the passenger side motor and everything other than the passenger side works, then the passenger side motor is the one you need to be looking at sorting
but the passenger side is also a "master" and not a slave so it just takes time and effort rather than throwing parts at it to solve this issue
had this on the fiesta when only one side will disarm the alarm but both sides will arm it, couldn't ba arsed after several hours trying to get it to work
there will probably be an issue with the cable that controls the lock or the little plastic widgets that hold everything in place, they can become brittle over time and if they've broken you just need a replacement
be warned that it is a bit of a p[ain in the arse to do though but remove the entire locking mechanism, carefully, and take pics of each part so you know how it goes back together again
i'd suggest getting hold of a decent set of phillips screwdrivers to undo some of the screws as you don't want them to get stuck or round the heads off
