Default focus 1.6 instument cluster fault....

just bought a daily runner to replace my van, but the dash goes wappy.....

one min its fine. next min all dials die and allw arning lights illuminate, then it starts "bonging" then goes back normal,,,

done some googleing and turns out its quite a common fault...

whats the actual method of repair?

or.... i have a spare dash. (actually 2) 1 from my focus rs, and one from an ST, will these work if i just fit these? or are 1.6 dash's diferent wiring wise?

cheers in advance

i have heard from a friend that has had this fault the spraying the circuit borad inside the cluster with wd40 (or similiar penetrating oil, Other brands are available...LOL) this helps with any dry joints in the soldering oin the board. Hope this helps.

so if its a dry joint, it would be worth stripping and finding the offending joint and just re-solder it?

If you fancy doing that, crack on. There is loads of possible joints inside.

I would say the wiring will be different etc, for a start the RS does not have a temperature gauge!

If you are famalier with the excellent "Ford diagnostic" on these dashes you can check for DTC's that have been flagged.

I presume this is obviously a MK1?
