Unhappy battery light

I have a problem with my 58 Focus ST?
Yesterday the battery light came on so this morning I ordered a new alternator.
i then went out to the car with my test meter to test the battery and got 12.5 volts.
on starting the engine I got 14.4 volts. so I switched on the lights and the radio and retested tte battery?
I was getting 14.2 to 14.4 volts this tells me that the alternator is working?
Any one had this problem?

The alternators have wires going to the ecu. Have seen it on earlier fords. Your best bet would be to have it put on a ford comuter and have the fault diagnosed that way.

The alternator is fine, as said it's the "Smart Charge" which is causing the problem, without this you effectively have a conventional charging system, the said 3 pin plugs on the unit themselves are common for having wires break which would cause your problem, so check the connections, and cancel your order if you are able to do so!

Default focus battery light fault

I have been out to look at the smart charge today to find out there is only one wire a whit and red one on pin 2.
The smart charge says there is 3 wires. So I am still at a loss here?

Had the battery and the alternator tested properly now and they are working fine.
I have looked at all the wiring to find they are all fine?
But still the light is on?http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/wall.gif
