Default Oil Consumption

Hi there, I'm new to forum, could anyone please help me.
I have a 3dr cossie, have had it for 12 years, but it has alsways used oil.
Over my years of ownership I have had to have the turbo done, and it had a head rebuild including new guides and seals.
I have done less than 15k miles since I have had it.
It runs ok apart from a misfire under load which has been diagnosed as leads so I will put some on this year.
But my main problem is the oil, it burns none at tickover, nothing under acceleration or on boost, but after a boost run and I lift off it smokes quite a bit when I put my foot back on the accelerator,
I am at a loss as I thought it was guides or turbo, could this be bottom end
as I want to solve it once and forall, I just do not know what tests to do to confirm what it is, compression is fine and i couldn't see any bore marks when I did head, I have been told that it could be due to stainless exhaust, I don't want to remove and rebore engine if it doesn't solve it,
Is there anywhere close to Dudley that could diagnose the problem properly for me so that I can sort it out
Sorry for such a long thread,
And thanks to anyone that can help

Cossies engines were by design built to use oil dependant on how hard you drove it depended how much it would use (have to check oil daily it said the manuals) although 15000 miles IS nothing really have you tried an after market breather type system on it? may be worth a try

I have a breather on it, engine has done 66k since new but about 15k in last 12 years, oil consumption is about 200-250 miles to the pint which I think is bad, although when it was on rolling road it gave 237bhp at wheels, but it does smoke on the over run, what is normal oil consumption for a 3 door as i may be worrying about nothing

Thanks

have you had the turbo checked also oil passes through and if worn you'll use extra oil) 1 pint to 250 miles does sound abit accessive (I cant remember the exact figures for usage) failing the above you may find that the piston rings are worn and a major factor for the loss of oil if you've had the top end built already and their is no change

a litre is 1.75 pints, sorry cannot work in metric, also is there anyway of confirming what is causing it, as I don't mind spending the money on it but do not want to do wrong job, as that will dishearten me a bit
any help would be appreciated

Thanks
if it is bottom end would i be better to get a used 4x4 short engine and get that rebuilt and just swap my head onto it

Default oil consumption

I have been down this road on my last cossie Ł1200 to have the head taken off rebuilt and refitted changed turbo oil' consumption improved but you still had to check and top it up, especially on a long run. it gets on your nerves after a while. On this cossie I bit the bullet and completely rebuilt the engine hey presto no oil consumption 2500 miles ran it in with mineral 750 mls semi 750 and then full synth I even keep the oil in the shed instead of the boot, miss the Ł4000 grand though. as said above the only way really is to have it rebuilt and it should be fine! 1st engine in mine used to drink it like a there was no 2morrow built it and now doesn't really drink oil

ps: It did take me awhile to get out the habit of always checking the oil b4 we were on a return journey my boot is empty of tools/containers of oil etc was worth it in the end save money on the oil as well

Thanks for the advice, think I am better off rebuilding bottom end as i plan on keeping the car for a long time, and would like to use it more often, will have to check on parts prices and start getting them together, as it seems logical that it must be rings,
Thanks
